Research regarding the redistricting process following the 2020 Census data. Report filed

MOTION
Councilmember Cromeenes moved to direct staff to conduct the three required public
hearings and selection of proposed map at the Council level; and recommended the
demographers produce a map showing a reduction in District 5’s population and more
identifiable districts southern boundary for future Council consideration. Motion was
second by Councilmember Rocha.
Upon motion by Councilmember Cromeenes, seconded by Councilmember
Rocha, Minute Order directing staff to conduct the three required public hearings

matter was referred to Litter and Debris Subcommittee to develop a long term
plan to address city-wide encampment clean-ups. The motion carried by the

Wastewater Effluent Utilization Agreement with Monterey One Water and the
Monterey County Water Resources Agency was approved. The motion carried by
the following vote:

COUNCILMEMBERS’ REPORTS, APPOINTMENTS AND FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS
Councilmember Osornio commended Community Development for the work they are
doing throughout the Salinas Community.
Councilmember Barrera requested maintenance and trimming of the palm trees along the
Alisal. He invited the community to attend the Ecology Action ribbon cutting ceremony
for the road improvements in the Alisal.
Councilmember Gonzalez announced upcoming events to include National Make a
Difference Day on October 23, and Halloween events coordinated by the Parks and
Recreation Division.

Councilmember Rocha reported that he attended the grand opening of the new restaurant
Tacos Don Beto and the Community Resource Fair.
Mayor Craig reported that she attended the resource fair along with Councilmember
Rocha in addition to attending the Salinas Police and Fire soccer match and the
Community Alliance for Safety and Peace awards. She noted that there is a high demand
from the local elementary schools for the anti-bullying campaigns and invited the Council
and community to participate in reading to kids.
