Smith Tuesday, May 31, 2016 5:15 PM Council Chambers 5:15 Work Session Agenda Planning Calendar Review Council Member Business Scott Cowdell informed the Council that he has a new cell phone number. Chris McCandless made a suggestion that the Administration explore the idea of putting a dollar donation box on the Utility Bills to help the homeless in our City. Council Office Director's Report No Report was given. Mayor's Report Mayor Dolan informed the Council of a luncheon that was held on behalf of the sponsors of the Amphitheater. CAO Report Police Chief Kevin Thacker reported that Councilwoman Linda Martinez Saville received the "Book of Golden Deeds" award from the Sandy Exchange Club. Fire Chief Bruce Cline reported on a house fire that occured on Grambling Way. City Attorney Rob Wall updated the Council on the Anderson lawsuit. Parks and Recreation Director Scott Earl reported on a various parks and trail head issues. Information Items Sandy City, Utah Page 1 Printed on 6/8/2016 City Council Meeting Minutes May 31, 2016 1. 16-226 Nonprofit Presentations Kate Johnson, representing Mountain West Ballet, presented a power point presentation on upcoming events with expressed appreciation to the Council for grant monies. Charlotte Jordan, Chairman American West Symphony and Chorus briefed the City Council on the programs that are offered to the residents of Sandy through American West Symphony and a partnership with Sandy City's Sister Cities program. Jim Hoffling, Sandy Boys and Girls Club, recognized all board members, with a goal for children in Sandy to have an opportunity to be successful. Mr. Gaylen Nate, Chief Operating Officer with the Sandy Chamber of Commerce, presented a power point presentation with information on the services to businesses that are offered through the Chamber. Sherry Worthen, Sandy Museum Director, expressed appreciation to the City and public who volunteer to make the museum successful. She explained the programs and outreach programs offered in the community to educate the residents on the history of Sandy. Nathaniel Wells, Boy Scout, volunteered his time and talents by cleaning up the outside yard at the Sandy Museum. 2. 16-224 Administration budget presentation. Annie Wrigley, of the Sandy Youth City Council, offered the opening prayer. Olivia Cline, of the Sandy Youth City Council, led the audience in the pledge. Approval of the Consent Calendar A motion was made to approve the Consent Calendar. Attachments: May 24, 2016 City Council Meeting minutes Item adopted. Citizen Comments There were no comments. Special Recognition 3. 16-227 Members of the Sandy Youth City Council (SYCC) will be recognized for earning their Honor Cord. Marsha Millet,along with Mayor Dolan and Chairwoman Kris Coleman Nicholl presented Honor Cords to members of the Sandy City Youth City Council. They were as follows: Maddie Berrett, Olivia Cline, Colton Liu, Mary Bryner (absent), and Annie Wrigley. Council Items 5. 16-228 Community Development Department is recommending the City Council adopt Ordinance #16-22 to revise Title 5, Chapter 1. Attachments: Ordinance 16-22 Exhibit A Executed copy of Ordinance 16-22 Leslie Casarel explained the reason and need for review of the ordinance. Council questions followed. A motion was made by Steve Fairbanks, seconded by Kristin Coleman-Nicholl, that the City Council adopt Ordinance #16-22 to revise Title 5, Chapter 1 of the Sandy City Ordinances. Adjournment A motion was made by Scott Cowdell, seconded by Chris McCandless, to adjourn the City Council meeting. The motion carried unanimously.
