Page 1 of 3 February 19, 2025 Shawano, Wisconsin CALL TO ORDER • Chairperson Jack Young called the Senior Citizens Commission meeting to order on Wednesday, February 19, 2025 at 9:00 AM at Shawano City Hall. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE ROLL CALL • Commission Members Present: Alderperson Jack Young, Bonnie Wolf, Joan Porter-Priem, Roger Olson, Lynnae Zahringer, and Lois Flaig and Mayor Bruce Milavitz. • Absent and Excused: Park and Recreation Director Matt Hendricks and Dennis Zdiarstek. • Staff Members Present: Deputy Clerk Leah Pierquet. COMPLIANCE WITH OPEN MEETING LAW • Chairperson Young stated that we were in compliance with the open meeting law. APPROVAL OF AGENDA AND/OR OTHER MATTERS AUTHORIZED BY LAW • Motion by Porter-Priem to approve the proposed agenda, seconded by Wolf. Motion carried by voice vote. APPROVAL OF SENIOR CITIZEN COMMISSION MINUTES OF JANUARY 15, 2025 • Motion by Porter-Priem to approve the proposed minutes, seconded by Olson. Motion carried by voice vote. PUBLIC COMMENTS PLEASE KEEP COMMENTS TO 3 MINUTES • None. REPORTS: • Civic Center Report: None. • Gift Shop Report: Cabin Fever craft show will take place at the Civic Center on March 8, 2025. • Commission on Aging Report: None. BILLS • None. OLD BUSINESS • Rental Conflicts: None. NEW BUSINESS • Round table discussion: Garden Letters were sent out on February 5, 2025, to all gardeners who had a garden last year. All gardeners need to request their plots by March 15, 2025 if they want garden plots in 2025. Mayor Milavitz asked who conducts maintenance on the gardens? Commission members stated the Parks and Recreation Department does the maintenance of the gardens. There are a few items that need to be fixed prior Page 1 of 2 Page 2 of 3 to the 2025 season. Questions were raised regarding if there are more topics that the Senior Citizen Commission should focus on. Chairperson Young mentioned accessibility of all parks within the city, namely Sturgeon Park and the ability to get closer to the water. Chairperson Young spoke with Matt Hendricks regarding this topic and intends to revisit this topic this year. Commissioner Porter-Preim questioned the spacing of aisle ways in businesses around town being accessible for the elderly and disabled. Mayor Milavitz stated Porter-Preim or he could speak with the BID Board about this topic, they meet the second Wednesday of the month at City Hall. Commissioner Zahringer mentioned businesses adding seating near the front door of businesses for the elderly. New item for discussion in March - Mobility concerns within the BID district.
