MINUTES Tuesday, May 2, 2017 12 PM Districting Commission Meeting Carnegie Town Hall 235 West Tenth Street Members Present: Jeffrey Eckhoff, Debra Elofson, James Fry, Mark Millage, Jason Wierenga Members Absent: None 1. Call To Order Commission Chair James Fry called the meeting to order at 12 p.m. 2. Approval of Minutes A. Meeting of Monday, April 24, 2017, at 3 p.m. A motion was made by Debra Elofson and seconded by Jason Wierenga to approve the minutes of the meeting of Monday, April 24, 2017, at 3 p.m. Commission Chair Fry called for a voice vote. All members voted yes. Motion Passed. 3. Analyze Information and Maps (Options B through E) At the request of the Commission Chair, Commission Member Mark Millage introduced map Option “F.” This option: moves precinct 1-8 from the Southwest (SW) to the Northwest (NW) District; moves precinct 1-2 from the SW District and precincts 3-7 & 3-8 from the NW District to the Central (CE) District; moves precinct 5-15 from the CE District and 2-4 from the Southeast District to the Northeast District. Discussion followed. A motion was made by Jason Wierenga and seconded by Debra Elofson to remove Option "D" from further consideration. Commission Chair Fry called for a voice vote. All members voted yes. Motion Passed. A motion was made by Debra Elofson and seconded by Jeffrey Eckhoff to remove Option "C" from further consideration. Commission Chair Fry called for a voice vote. All members voted yes. Motion Passed.  A motion was made by Jason Wierenga and seconded by Mark Millage to recommend Option "F" as the preferred plan. Commission Chair Fry called for a voice vote. All members voted yes. Motion Passed. The Commission decided that Options "B" and "E" would be presented for informational and comparative purposes at the public hearing(s). 4. Discussion of Public Hearing(s) City Clerk Tom Greco explained that the Charter requires at least one public hearing. The Commission discussed the number of hearings and format. A motion was made by Mark Millage and seconded by Debra Elofson to set a date of public hearing for Thursday, June 15, 2017, at 6:30 p.m. in Carnegie Town Hall. Commission Chair Fry called for a voice vote. All members voted yes. Motion Passed. A motion was made by Jeffrey Eckhoff and seconded by Mark Millage to amend the time of hearing on Thursday, June 15, 2017, from 6:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Commission Chair Fry called for a voice vote. All members voted yes. Motion Passed. A motion was made by Jason Wierenga and seconded by Jeffrey Eckhoff to set a date of public hearing for Saturday, June 17, 2017, at 10 a.m. in Carnegie Town Hall. Commission Chair Fry called for a voice vote. All members voted yes. Motion Passed. The public hearings will also include an open house. 5. Open Discussion See Item 3 for actions relating to Option F. 6. Next Meeting Greco stated that a follow-up meeting will be coordinated to occur during the week following the public hearings. 7.
