MINUTES Tuesday, October 11, 2011 Informational Meeting 4:00 PM at Carnegie Town Hall Sioux Falls City Council 235 West Tenth Street Members Present: Sue Aguilar, Kenny Anderson Jr., Vernon Brown, Michelle Erpenbach, Greg Jamison, Dean Karsky, and Mike T. Huether Members Absent: James Entenman, Rex Rolfing Staff Present: Sue Roust, Interim City Clerk and Jamie Palmer, CMC, Assistant City Clerk 1. Call To Order Council Chair Aguilar called the meeting to order at 4:00 p.m. 2. Fiscal Committee A. Report from meeting held on Monday, October 3, 2011 3. City Council Open Discussion Jamison spoke about a concert that he recently attended at the Arena. He said that there were several other activities occurring at the convention center so the parking was very congested. He also attended the Stampede game on Saturday and said that this coming Friday is the first game that will utilize the new scoreboard. Brown spoke about the garbage and recycling ordinance and an issue with three different garbage company trucks blocking traffic in his neighborhood. Sue Roust, Interim City Clerk, gave a brief election update. She said that her focus has been primarily to get the election workers assigned to polling locations. She said that there have been approximately 1,300 absentee ballots taken out to date which indicates high interest in the election. She said that we have workers for 52 of the 57 precincts and gave accolades to the City Clerk's staff for completing most of this work before she came on board. She said that the budgeted amount for the election is $45,000 but by her calculations it might be closer to $51,000 which does not include the cost of the delivery/return of election equipment by the Public Works Department. She asked for clarification on making Saturday morning absentee voting available the Saturday before the election and about offering two sessions of election school for the precinct workers. Aguilar said that she would get back to her with an answer to her questions.  Councilor Entenman arrived to the meeting at 4:03 p.m. 4. Presentations A. Events Center Update by Mayor Mike Huether 5.
