MINUTES Informational Meeting Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at 4:00 PM Carnegie Town Hall, 235 West 10th St., Sioux Falls, SD 57104 1. Call To Order Council Members Present: Janet Brekke, Christine M. Erickson, Alex Jensen, Rick Kiley, Greg Neitzert, Curt Soehl, Pat Starr Council Members Absent: Marshall Selberg City Council Chair Curt Soehl called the meeting to order at 4 p.m. 2. Committee/Commission Reports A. Accessible Housing Advisory Board: Wednesday, May 4, 2022 (Council Member Selberg) The report will be provided at a future meeting. B. Siouxland Heritage Museum Board: Thursday, May 5, 2022 (Council Member Starr) Council Member Pat Starr stated that the Museum currently has three interns working and that Director Bill Hoskins will appear before a joint meeting of the Council and Minnehaha County Commission to provide an annual report. 3. Councilor Remarks Council Vice Chair Alex Jensen recognized Jim David for 10 years of service to the City. Council Member Rick Kiley stated that he and Jensen attended a fundraiser wrap- up for the Sioux Falls Skate Park Association this past week. The organization raised over $1.7M. Council Member Greg Neitzert spoke about his attendance at a Pettigrew Neighborhood Meeting earlier this week where the disposition of a vacant lot owened by the school district on 9th and Grange was discussed. 4. Presentations A. Sioux Empire Housing Partnership Introduction by Hugo Barron, Sioux Empire Housing Partnership Presentation: Approximately 15 minutes followed by discussion Barron explained that he's been with the organization for over five years and was recently selected as its Executive Director. The Sioux Empire Housing Partnership seeks to expand affordable housing for low to moderate incomes through active participation and facilitation with the public and private sectors of the Sioux Empire. They carry out their mission by: 1) Providing Homeownership and Rental Education to people in the Sioux Empire; 2) Offering caring and culturally sensitive housing counseling services to our community, and; 3) Helping homebuyers achieve the American Dream of Homeownership.Discussion followed about: funding; budget; number of families served per year; types of assistance provided to potential homeowners; and the impact of rising interest rates. 5. Public Comment There was none. 6. Adjournment Council Chair Curt Soehl adjourned the meeting at 4:24 p.m. Thomas M. Greco, City Clerk
