MINUTES Informational Meeting Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at 4:00 PM Carnegie Town Hall, 235 West 10th St., Sioux Falls, SD 57104 1. Call To Order Council Members Present: David Barranco, Miranda Basye, Sarah Cole, Rich Merkouris, Jennifer Sigette, Curt Soehl, Ryan Spellerberg, Richard L. Thomason Council Members Absent: None Council Chair Curt Soehl called the meeting to order at 4 p.m. 2. Councilor Remarks Soehl provided a report on the recent Solid Waste Planning Board Meeting. He then gave his top three picks for Thanksgiving pies: pecan, pumpkin and any fruit pie. 3. Presentations A. Childcare Discussion by Councilor Rich Merkouris; and Justin Smith, Woods, Fuller, Schulz & Smith Presentation: Approximately 15 minutes followed by discussion Council Vice Chair Rich Merkouris provided a brief synopsis of the ongoing Childcare discussion. Justin Smith, Woods, Fuller, Schulz & Smith, provided an in depth look at the three Objectives surrounding the Childcare discussion (the Objectives are attached to the agenda). Following the presentation, questions asked by the Council were answered by Smith. Merkouris provided a follow-up and spoke of future possibilities. Councilor Jennifer Sigette spoke about a pilot program and long-term options and costs. 4. Public Comment David Zokaites spoke about reducing childcare costs. 5. Adjournment Council Chair Curt Soehl mentioned that Thanksgiving is Thursday and stated that he was thankful for the seven other Councilors. He adjourned the meeting at 4:46 p.m. Denise D.
