MINUTES OF THE ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING SMYRNA TOWN COUNCIL May 4, 2022 The meeting was called to order by Mayor Robert C. Johnson at 6:30 p.m. Council members present were Michael A. Rasmussen, Valerie M. Forbes, William D. Pressley Sr., Margaret B. Mann, and Gerald L. Brown. Also present were Town Manager Andrew S. Haines, Chief Torrie James, Attorney D. Barrett Edwards, and Recording Secretary Valerie L. Heritage. Mayor Johnson asked everyone to rise for the Pledge of Allegiance. ADDITIONS/DELETIONS TO PUBLISHED AGENDA Councilman Rasmussen made the motion to accept the agenda as presented. Motion was seconded by Councilwoman Gott and carried unanimously. REPORT OF THE ELECTION BOARD Mr. Haines, on behalf of the Board of Elections, read the certified election results into the record: Council Member District 1: Tabitha J. Gott - uncontested Council Member At-Large: Michael A. Rasmussen – 193 Frederick N. Schaber IV – 54 Corrine Upshur - 125 SWEARING-IN CEREMONY A. For Council Members – Mayor Johnson swore-in Tabitha J. Gott and Michael A. Rasmussen. COUNCIL APPOINTMENTS A. Vice Mayor B. Council Secretary Mayor and Council Page 2 of 2 May 4, 2022 C. Recording Secretary – Councilman Brown made the motion to appoint Valerie M. Forbes as Vice Mayor, William D. Pressley Jr. as Council Secretary, and Valerie L. Heritage as Recording Secretary. Motion was seconded by Councilwoman Mann and carried unanimously. SET TIME AND PLACE FOR COUNCIL MEETINGS A. Previously 7:00 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of every month except for Legal Holidays when meetings are held the following night (Tuesday) – Councilwoman Forbes made the motion to hold the Council meetings at 7:00 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of every month except for Legal Holidays when meetings are held the following night (Tuesday). Motion was seconded by Councilman Brown and carried unanimously. AUTHORIZED SIGNATURES FOR BANK ACCOUNTS Councilwoman Forbes made the motion to approve the list of authorized signatures for the bank accounts as listed on the agenda. Motion was seconded by Councilman Rasmussen and carried unanimously. COMMITTEE APPOINTMENTS Councilwoman Forbes made the motion approve the committee appointments as requested by Mayor Johnson. Motion was seconded by Councilman Rasmussen and carried unanimously. ADJOURNMENT Councilman Rasmussen made the motion to adjourn. Motion was seconded by Councilwoman Gott. Meeting was adjourned at 6:43 p.m. by unanimous vote. vlh
