Health Department BOARD OF HEALTH MEETING SOUTH MILWAUKEE/ ST. FRANCIS HEALTH DEPARTMENT THURSDAY, MAY 7, 2020 @ 6:30 PM South Milwaukee City Administration Building 2424 15th Avenue, South Milwaukee, WI 53172 Meeting held through https://global.gotomeeting.com/join/138054373 MINUTES Attendance: Dr. Scalzitti, Cyndi Kieck, Kristin Drenzek, Jerry Bzdawka, Liz Keller, Jackie Ove, Alder Peggy Clark, Tami Mayzik . Absent: Karen Stewart, Vickie Dominski, Alder Matt Damon 1. Call to order- Called to order by Cyndi Kieck at 6:34 p.m. 2. Agenda additions/ announcements/ information- No additions. J Ove announced that all who speak should first state name for the record since meeting only audible, not visual. 3. Approval of the minutes from the February 20, 2020 meeting. L Keller moved, P Clark seconded, to approve the minutes. Motion carried. 4. Medical Advisor Report- Dr. Scalzitti -Hope people not putting off health care. Don’t be afraid of going to ER. Green status in most hospitals (meaning 0-10 min. wait, 0 patients waiting in hallway). Children should be going to their pediatrician Dr. visits to, for example, avoid a measles outbreak. 5. Public Health Administrator Report-  Staff mainly working on covid 19 related response – see #6  Commended all the support the Dept. has received by Cities of SM and SF  Brought back 2 retired PHN part-time to help with either covid 19 or normal duties, such as, latent TB cases, communicable disease follow-up. They are a great help.  HD clerk also working on regular duties, like new baby packets. Also mailing or dropping off thermometers to individuals who do not have one and can’t find one to purchase to monitor symptoms. 6. Emerging communicable disease- see latest situational briefing. Testing capacity has increased. The National Guard is testing at UMOS and 60th/Capital. Open to anyone and asymptomatic. Aurora in patient testing. WI waiting on Supreme Court decision on Safer at Home. Local health depts. have Moving Milwaukee Forward plan depending on decision. Too many covid19 cases to be ready to completely open. Seeing other unusual symptoms or no symptoms with positive covid19 patients. IE: patient with UTI and no fever. It was noted that long term care residents are on anti inflammatory drugs which would keep fevers down. Question on whether increased vitamin D levels in a person can lessen corona virus symptoms. Some studies done, on news, not aware of confirmation on that. Milwaukee County pilot program which includes Grant Park. Closing off park road and allowing only foot traffic. Supposed to start this Friday. Beach testing season begins before Memorial Day. Gates to beach to open next Friday. There is still storm damage to be cleaned up at park. 7. Community health assessment- report is complete and was emailed to board for review. Next step is to discuss what priorities to work on for the next 5 years. Drug Use and Mental Health top issues. This discussion will continue at next BOH meeting in Sept. regarding focus groups with community members. Side notes: Dr Scalzitti mentioned telehealth and virtual health is available for mental health issues. Also J Ove gave shout out to SM School District counselors are still working with students, remote support, Trauma Informed Care (TIC) teams, staying connected. C Kieck made motion to accept Community Health Assessment Report to put on file. P Clark moved, J Bzdawka seconded. Motion carried.
