Health Department BOARD OF HEALTH MEETING SOUTH MILWAUKEE/ ST. FRANCIS HEALTH DEPARTMENT THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 11, 2021 AT 6:30PM SOUTH MILWAUKEE CITY ADMINISTRATION BUILDING COMMON COUNCIL CHAMBERS 2424 15TH AVENUE SOUTH MILWAUKEE, WI 53172 MINUTES ATTENDANCE: Cyndi Kieck, Vickie Dominski, Jerry Bzdawka, Peggy Clark, Jackie Ove, Dr. Sandra Scalzitti, EXCUSED: Liz Keller, Karen Stewart, Cassie Hadley 1. Call to order- Meeting called to order at 6:31pm. 2. Agenda additions/ announcements/ information- Milwaukee County Resolution regarding exploring options for a county-wide health department. 3. Approval of the minutes from the November 12, 2020 meeting- Vickie moved, Peggy seconded to approve the minutes, all voted aye. 4. Medical Advisor Report- Influenza cases low, vaccination rates similar to previous years, protective measures from COVID helped with decreasing disease. Vaccinations for COVID started, good feedback on the process, initial difficulty about how to go about getting vaccine, Pharmacies helpful getting long term care facilities vaccinated. Discussed potential for side effects for COVID vaccination. Both vaccines safe and effective. Seeing more side effects in younger population in practice. 5. Public Health Administrator Report- Public Health has been primarily working on COVID-19 response and will continue in 2021. Started vaccination campaign and conjunction with Cudahy and Oak Creek to pool resources, and vaccine. There are three lists of individuals for vaccination communication. These include email, phone, and a homebound list. Continue to gradually work off of email and phone lists. Homebound list needs to have a certain number in order to schedule visits so no vaccine is wasted. Each home visit appointment will be approximately an hour long so will need two vaccinators in order to use the vaccine in the allotted time frame. Have instituted some local health department programming including: continuing offering immunizations, are providing mailings to new families, reminder for immunizations, ages and stages mailings with South Milwaukee City Administration Building • 2424 15th Avenue • South Milwaukee, Wisconsin 53172 Phone: 414-768-8055 • Fax: 414-768-5720 • smwi.org  Health Department questionnaires, continue the quick response visits, and Narcan distribution on those visits. Update on overdose deaths, tentative numbers are 13 in South Milwaukee and 3 in St. Francis. 6. Coronavirus (COVID-19) update: Disease Investigation, Testing, and Vaccination- Continue to conduct disease investigations and contact tracing for high risk contacts. Have shifted some contact tracers to vaccination clinics. Testing continues at the community testing site through March 30. 7. Agenda addition of Resolution from Milwaukee County Supervisors regarding a study for establishing a Milwaukee County Health Department. Discussion occurred regarding the request to local health departments to participate in a study, compiling information for the Wisconsin Policy Forum and developing a steering committee in addition to responding to a pandemic. Board of Health members indicated that they were not interested in a County Health Department and are concerned that the Common Councils are likely not aware of the study. A motion was made by Peggy seconded by Jerry that the resolution be forwarded to the Common Councils expressing that the Board of Health is not interested in participating in a study for a County Health Department, all voted aye. 8. Adjournment- Peggy moved to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Vickie. Meeting adjourned at 7:09pm.
