CITY OF SPEARFISH 625 Fifth Street, Spearfish S.D. 57783 Telephone: (605) 642-1333 Parks, Recreation, & Forestry Advisory Board – Minutes Thursday, February 16, 2017 I City Hall – Council Chambers I 7:00 am Jordan Called meeting to order: 7:02 am Members/Staff Present: Jordan, Chris, Randy, Marty, Charlie, Barb, Dave, Perry, Bruce, John, Pam, (STAFF) Tyler, Brett, Crissy APPROVAL OF AGENDA: motion by John 2nd by Randy move to remove the Bat House under New Business; motion carried with change APPROVAL OF MINUTES: motion by Randi 2nd by John; motion carried Introduction of New staff Bruce Gefvert Perry Mader ITEMS FROM VISITORS (Policy Note: Visitors are limited to 5 minutes of presentation followed by questions) a) Hills Horizon (Josh Larson) community food forest idea presentation (Jayne Brenneisen from Hills Horizon) long term project: lease agreement with the city to create an area for community events, food supply, recreation currently looking at area by community garden. (Flexible with the location?) They are also looking at a financing source to support the project. b) Motion by Randy 2nd John discussion: move to support efforts and applicant will meet with Perry and discuss project and location and to report back to the board next month with further information. Motion passed To review March 16th OLD BUSINESS Board Items a) Scope and schedule of Recreation Path Master Plan Update: group meeting after board meeting to update committee b) Adoption of revised By-Laws (received in agenda packet): Randy motion to approve 2nd Barb; motion carried Park & Forestry a) Spartan Park Goal Post update (Tyler) met with Nick Hoffman and they are asking for permission to continue with their project and will forward to Public Works committee next. MOU will be reviewed by Eric and updated/simplified b) Update of Land Task Force Parks layer in GIS: has been recommended full council agenda and should be live next week Rec & Aquatic Center a) Sub Committee membership participants: Brett (Rec center participants will attend next meeting) Vote next meeting on the 2 participants NEW BUSINESS Board Items a) Bat house on Rec Path (John) Next Meeting – March16, 2017 7:00 am Council Chambers  CITY OF SPEARFISH 625 Fifth Street, Spearfish S.D. 57783 Telephone: (605) 642-1333 Park & Forestry a) Arbor Day Workshop planned for April- see free tree care workshop document (Tyler) Rec & Aquatic Center Items from the Board Randy commented on the new Position currently taken by Perry (our voice for city office) recommending relocating to a city office versus rec center. Encourage to ask council to relocate Perry to City office. Also recommend Dept. representatives and Eric to be present at the SPRFAB meetings. CONSENT AGENDA / FYI ITEMS  5K series February 18 (Cupid’s Run)  Skate Night- March 3rd (St Patrick’s theme) 5:30-8:30 pm  Dodgeball starting February 20th registration now open for teams Monday nights (6-10pm)  Half Price Swim passes sales thru May 1, 2017  Water Safety Instructors Course starts Feb 24th  Lifeguard training course starts March 17th  Polar Plunge Feb. 26th at Rec Center parking lot jumping at 2 pm.  Strider Camp starting week of March 6th nightly 6-7 pm  Queen City Classic basketball tournament March 24-26th, gyms will be closed to public  Save the Date!
