CITY OF SPEARFISH 625 Fifth Street, Spearfish S.D. 57783 Telephone: (605) 642-1333 Parks, Recreation, & Forestry Advisory Board – AGENDA Thursday, March 16, 2017 I City Hall – Council Chambers I 7:00 am Meeting called to order 7:03am by J. Bauer APPROVAL OF AGENDA: motion by John 2nd by Charlie, motion passed APPROVAL OF MINUTES: motion by John 2nd by Dave, motion passed Attendance: Bauer, McCart, Gefvert, Donat, Cline, Hanson, Neilson, Clark, Kelley, Jacobs, Ehnes, Rauterkus, Mader, and Sieber Mayor Dana Boke: City new land acquisition: Mayor Dana Boke not in attendance. Perry updated on the purchase of the 80 acres on McGuigan Rd (saw mill). Purchase of property not for any specific intended purpose. ITEMS FROM VISITORS (Policy Note: Visitors are limited to 5 minutes of presentation followed by questions) a) Mark Kazmer(president of NHAHA) a. Seeks consultation, and support forwarding to City Council, on mid-term vision building a rink in Spearfish, need, loan & grant opportunities. b. Seeks consultation, and support forwarding to Public Works, then to City Council, to move the hockey rink boards with adjustments, to the rink in the park. Discussion: Perry discussed the new location having a flood plain at area of existing rink in the campgrounds. This limits the availability to move light, grade the land, or move trees. Tyler talked with the Cheryl in regards to the land and preparing for FEMA. Refrigeration unit could be an additional option to keeping their existing location. Next step: Perry currently looking at the campground spot and confirm if feasible with flood plain and FEMA. OLD BUSINESS Board Items Park & Forestry a. Rec Path (Perry): updated for next steps for the path. Tyler wrote a rec trails plans grant to help with most of the expenses. (Sandstone funding) Plans are in place need to start moving forward. Suggested to have plans digital and placed on the GIS system. a. Add to agenda for next meeting to pick projects to focus on and complete with a final goal in mind. Send the list out to the board of items for board members can prioritize the list for the top 2 to 3 items. b. Spartan Park update (Tyler) taken to council with the parking issue. Council approved and ready to move on the project. Parking not an issue, cannot place no parking on signs streets because is a public street. Tyler also suggested children parking signage in middle of street to slow traffic down. Rec & Aquatic Center Next Meeting – April 20, 2017 7:00 am Council Chambers CITY OF SPEARFISH 625 Fifth Street, Spearfish S.D. 57783 Telephone: (605) 642-1333 a. Participants for the Sub Committee membership (Brett) Lornie Stalder, Jim Walker, Ty Sieber and group of 3 silver sneakers participants along with the committee members from the board. Group does not meet formally but a resource board. b. Make up 5K race: May 20th (jingle bell run) Update for the run makeup from December scheduled race. NEW BUSINESS Board Items Park & Forestry Rec & Aquatic Center a. New Rec Center positions (Brett): In process in realigning the positions to replace the Aquatic specialist and Community Event coordinator. Items from the Board Rec grants discussion add to next month’s meeting Black Hills trail system doesn’t list any in Spearfish. No official trails are noted in city due to public land. Maps of Lookout Mountain trails are now on the trail system. Tuesday April 25th Arbor Day program CONSENT AGENDA / FYI ITEMS  5K running series March 18 (Leprechaun Run)  Skate Night- April 7th (Bunny Hop theme) 5:30-8:30 pm  Half Price Swim passes sales thru May 1, 2017  Queen City Classic basketball tournament March 24-26th, gyms will be closed to public  Summer Activities Registration opens April 1st at Rec center or online  Community Easter egg Hunt April 15th  Community Rummage Sale April 22nd  Regional Health Fair and 5k race April 29th  Kiwanis Basketball tournament April 29th  Save the Date!
