CITY OF SPEARFISH 625 Fifth Street, Spearfish S.D. 57783 Telephone: (605) 642-1333 Parks, Recreation, & Forestry Advisory Board – Minutes Thursday, April 20, 2017 I City Hall – Council Chambers I 7:00 am Meeting called to order 8:00 am by C. McCart APPROVAL OF AGENDA: motion by Kelly 2nd Donat, motion passed APPROVAL OF MINUTES: motion by Kelly 2nd Donat, motion passed Attendance: McCart, Gefvert, Deibert, Hanson, Kelly, Clark, Donat, Ehnes, Mader, and Sieber ITEMS FROM VISITORS (Policy Note: Visitors are limited to 5 minutes of presentation followed by questions) a. Kelly Weis- Annual Kenadi’s Karnival June 24th requesting support (use of picnic tables, garbage cans and portable blow up games from Rec Center) Deibert made no motion but noted that all will be approved administratively a. Move swing from Brady Park to Evans addition and replace swing in Brady with a new age suitable swing donated by foundation. Ehnes has no park issues with the swing replacement. Motion by Donat 2nd Gefvert, motion passed OLD BUSINESS Board Items a. Update land purchase on Colorado Blvd. Mader updated board not much movement of the land purchase, there is property discussion currently, and an extension to June 2nd for further studies. b. Jackson Street (Mader) Project moving forward utilizing funds from Rec Center and Pathway Project will go toward this project (option) another revenue source for Jackson Street, May 9th at 6pm meeting to discuss Jackson Blvd motion Dave concerned with any capital funding is removed from other projects for supporting this project. Randy suggests Perry to prepare a letter to distribute to board and present at next meeting. Support this project, but voice concern with the funding. Motion Randy and John motion passed. Park & Forestry a. Prioritize the projects for the Rec Path updates (Mader) table this to the next meeting. Asking board members to send each of their prioritize list to Perry (criteria of how to construct prioritization) Suggesting a workshop meeting to discuss Pathways. (Suggesting 2 weeks from this meeting at 7am.) b. Top Shelf Park and Pathway: McGuigan Rd. and Hwy 14 park proposal, zero landscaping zeroscaping, small playground and picnic shelter and path down to the housing development. (Perry will send out the map) Add this discussion on future agenda. Design to a city standard, Deibert proposed to except green space along McGuigan to support pave trail system as approved by engineering staff and maintain by city of spearfish when it is complete. Kelly 2nd. Motion passed. c. Ice Rink Update (Tyler) Deibert motion to advice group to work with parks dept. to recommend alternative location options Hanson 2nd, motion passed. Rec & Aquatic Center Next Meeting – May 18, 2017 7:00 am Council Chambers CITY OF SPEARFISH 625 Fifth Street, Spearfish S.D. 57783 Telephone: (605) 642-1333 a. Water Park membership update (Sieber) updated board of adverting efforts to promote the May 1st deadline for the half price water park membership through newspaper, radio and social media. NEW BUSINESS Board Items Park & Forestry a. Chain link fence artwork (Jayna) Bush Foundation grant possible artwork at Creekside elementary school, Dog Park, rec center, includes color integrated into the fencing to beautify the city b. Expedition League baseball (informational only) approached by a group Adult wooden bat semiprofessional league, with 30 home games and want to play where legion field. Researching more and having discussion with Legion President Matt Kemp. Rec & Aquatic Center a. New Rec Center positions (Mader) Youth and Recreation Coordinator. Job description is currently with Jodi for final approval. b. Rec Grants (Perry/ Dave) Further discussion at the next meeting Items from the Board CONSENT AGENDA / FYI ITEMS  5K running series April 22nd (Bunny Run) and May 20th (Jingle Bell Run)  Skate Night- May 5th (Sports Fans theme) 5:30-8:30 pm  Half Price Swim passes sales thru May 1, 2017  Community Rummage Sale April 22nd  Regional Health Fair at Rec Center April 29th 9am-2pm  Save the Date!
