The goal is to bid the project in April and start construction in the summer of 2021 o Ehnes will meet with Caldwell to kick off the marketing and fundraising campaign o The estimate came in higher than expected – Ehnes and City Administrator Harmon will meet to go through line items o Going to try and build more parking spots goal is 500 o Hope to be playing on it by spring of 2023 Board Items • Q & A on December Staff Update o Peoria and Rushmore Bridge Update-City has received the no rise study and it did not come back favorably. Engineering will be working with several agencies with jurisdiction of the creek and provide City Council with options Rec & Aquatic Center Park & Forestry • Adopt – A – Park Recognition o Presentation Attached o Fits in well with the Strategic Plan NEW BUSINESS Board Items Director Items • 2020 Campground and Rec Center Revenue/Expense o Budget analysis attached Rec & Aquatic Center • New hours starting Jan 4th o Monday – Friday 5:30 am – 9:00 pm o Saturday - 8:00 am – 6:00 pm o Sunday – Closed Next Meeting – January 21, 2021 – Zoom Parks, Recreation, & Forestry Advisory Board – MINUTES Thursday, December 17th, 2020 I City Hall – Zoom Option Only I 7:30 am • 24 Hour Discussion o What areas would the board like to see? ▪ Lookout room & Training room ▪ Include the walking track and Gym -with barricades for the Rock Wall area o Completed the fence outside the locker rooms – this took care of one of the larger concerns of securing the pool deck o Key Fobs o Parking Lot Areas – north or main parking lot o Revenue vs Expenses o Is this the right time to launch the 24 hour – community survey said that hours were the biggest problems o Staffing expensing could be lowered o Liability with someone being alone o PD has access to our cameras FYI ITEMS Ehnes and board members thanked Donat for serving on the board for 6 years Ehnes thanked Chyba for her work with the minutes and agenda Ehnes introduced Barb Heiting the new Admin Assistant at the Rec Center Winter Wonderland 1300 people came through opening weekend $5,000 grant is extended through Oct 2021 to work on tree inventory PUBLIC COMMENT ADJOURNMENT – Motion by Hall, second by Griffith – Motion Carries with Caldwell, Coburn, Donat, Griffith, Hall, and Clark voting yes. The meeting was adjourned at 8:39 am Next Meeting – January 21, 2021 – Zoom Adopt-A-Park Program 2020 Recognizing our partners in the community 2020 Adopt-A-Park Details • Created in 2020 • Over 100 volunteers from local organizations • 5 parks were adopted by 5 community groups • City Park – Monument Health • Rotary Park – Northern Black Hills Rotary • Salem Park – BHSU Volleyball team • Jorgensen Park – Ainsworth/Benning Construction • Brady Park – members of the Brady family Monument Health – City Park • Workdays included: • Litter clean-up and debris removal along the creek • Revamping Little Free Library near playground • Landscaping and flower planting near the Log Cabin • New volleyball net Monument Health volunteers at City Park Northern Black Hills Rotary – Rotary Park • Workdays included: • Installation of the Peace and Pollinator garden • Application of pollinator-friendly herbicide for weed control • Trimming of shrubs • Installation of a metallophone (as part of a partnership with the Kenadi Jean Weis Foundation) Northern Black Hills Rotary at Rotary Park BHSU Volleyball team – Salem Park • Workday included: • Staining of: • Picnic shelter • Picnic tables • Restrooms • Wooden fence • Clean-up around horseshoe pits • Pulling weeds • Clean-up along the creek BHSU Volleyball team at Salem Park Ainsworth/Benning Construction – Jorgensen Park • Workday included: • Spreading mulch • Staining of: • Picnic shelter • Picnic tables • Restrooms • Painting swing set Ainsworth/Benning Construction volunteers at Jorgensen Park Brady family members – Brady Park • Project ideas for spring 2021 include: • New sign at the corner of Grant and Meier, highlighting the Brady family history in Spearfish • Revamp landscaped areas • Replacing picnic table boards • Potentially creating fishing access points along the creek Thank you to our 2020 adopting partners!
