STERLING HEIGHTS CULTURAL COMMISSION Minutes of Tuesday, September 4, 2012 Meeting Location: Sterling Heights City Hall, 40555 Utica Road, Sterling Heights, MI 48313, Conference Room 202, 6 p.m. Members Present: Josephine Berthet, David Bollman, Jan Burns, Frank DiMaria, Grace Finazzo, Margaret Frontiera, Eboni LaMar, Donald Schinzing, John Stampor Members Absent: Maurice Batarseh, Ronald Bindle Representing the City: Steve Guitar and Karen Kazmer APPROVAL OF MINUTES : Motion to approve the meeting minutes of the June 5, 2012 Cultural Commission made by Frank DiMaria. Seconded by: Josephine Berthet Ayes: all Nays: none AGENDA ITEMS: A. Review of 2012 Sterlingfest  Comments received from artist and food vendors were reviewed.  Commission members agreed the amount of “buy-sell” material in the artist area was up this year. Members agreed to monitor this to ensure items are not in the 2013 Sterlingfest.  The city of Utica’s festival was the same weekend as Sterlingfest; per Steve Guitar Utica will be changing the weekend date in 2013 to not conflict with Sterlingfest.  Steve Guitar reported management is investigating different options to up revenue in the case of inclement weather.  Commission members will review the option of a “Made in Michigan” area. B. Artist of the Month  Two artist of the month applications were reviewed.  Sheryl Burns is November 2012 artist of the month.  Carol Blake is December 2012 artist of the month. C. 2012/13 Fiscal Year Calendar  Commission members reviewed the proposed 2012/13 Fiscal Year Calendar for meeting dates of the Cultural Commission. It was noted no December meeting, and meeting day will be Wednesday in November and January.  Motion to accept the 2012/13 Fiscal Year Calendar for the Cultural Commission made by John Stampor. Seconded by Eboni LaMar Ayes: all Nays: none OLD BUSINESS:  David Bollman will submit a proposal to the Cultural Commission at the October meeting for the cleaning and maintenance of sculptures on city grounds. NEW BUSINESS:  Grace Finazzo stated she will not be in attendance at the October 2, 2012 Cultural Commission meeting due to a conflict in class scheduling.
