STERLING HEIGHTS CULTURAL COMMISSION
Minutes of Tuesday, March 5, 2013 Meeting
Location: Sterling Heights City Hall, 40555 Utica Road, Sterling Heights, MI 48313,
Conference Room 202, 6 p.m.
Members Present: Maurice Batarseh, Josephine Berthet, Jan Burns, Frank DiMaria, Grace
Finazzo, Margaret Frontiera, Jeanne Schabath, Donald Schinzing, John Stampor
Members Absent: Ronald Bindle, David Bollman, Eboni LaMar
Representing the City: Steve Guitar and Karen Kazmer
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Motion to approve the meeting minutes of the February 5, 2013 Cultural Commission made by
Frank DiMaria.
Seconded by: John Stampor Ayes: all Nays: none
AGENDA ITEMS:
A. Memorial Day Parade
· Steve Guitar reported a military fly-over has been applied
for during the parade, but due to budget reductions,
the fly-over has not been confirmed.
· Commission members have volunteered for assignments
during the parade:
> Jan Burns & Margaret Frontiera—carry banner
> Josephine Berthet & Frank DiMaria—scouts
> Joe Burns & Maurice Batarseh—politicians
> Grace Finazzo—section B
> Ron Bindle—section C
> Jeanne Schabath—direction of traffic off Utica Road
B. Sterlingfest
· A sub-committee will review artist applications and make
a recommendation to the Cultural Commission. Maurice
Batarseh & Jan Burns will be part of the sub-committee.
· Steve Guitar, Joe Burns and Sgt. Aaron Burgess will meet
to discuss “Sterlingfast 5k Run”. Steve Guitar will report
at April meeting.
C. Artist of the Month
· No applications were received for review for the
“Featured Artist” program.
OLD BUSINESS:
· Steve Guitar is working with the Purchasing Department
to obtain bids for the sculpture project.
NEW BUSINESS:
· Commission members recommend selling tickets at
Sterlingfest for the raffle of the painting of the Upton House.
Maurice Batarseh suggests other prizes be raffled off also.
· Josephine Berthet will be out of town for the April 2nd meeting.
Motion to adjourn Cultural Commission meeting at 6:45 p.m. made by Margaret Fronteria.
