STERLING HEIGHTS CULTURAL COMMISSION
Minutes of Tuesday, May 7, 2013 Meeting
Location: Sterling Heights City Hall, 40555 Utica Road, Sterling Heights, MI 48313,
Conference Room 202, 6 p.m.
Members Present: Maurice Batarseh, Josephine Berthet, Ronald Bindle, Jan Burns, Frank
DiMaria, Grace Finazzo, Margaret Frontiera, Eboni LaMar, Jeanne Schabath, Donald Schinzing,
John Stampor
Members Absent: David Bollman
Representing the City: Steve Guitar and Karen Kazmer
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Motion to approve the meeting minutes of the April 2, 2013 Cultural Commission, as amended,
made by John Stampor.
Seconded by: Ronald Bindle Ayes: all Nays: none
AGENDA ITEMS:
A. Memorial Day Parade
o Due to a family situation, the gentleman who agreed to be Grand Marshal has
cancelled. Steve Guitar had a list of prospective names for Grand
Marshal. Peggy Frontiera will contact each gentleman to see if any are interesting
in serving as this year’s Grand Marshal.
B. Artist of the Month
o Three applications were reviewed for the Artist of the Month program.
o Motion to select Amy Lockard as June-July Artist of the Month made by Donald
Schinzing.
Frank DiMaria stated acceptance is contingent on all paintings being framed.

o Motion to select Lori Borraccio Morris as August-September Artist of the Month
made by Donald Schinzing.
Seconded by: Josephine Berthet Ayes: all Nays: none
o Motion to select Katrina Ruby as October-November Artist of the Month made by
Donald Schinzing.
Seconded by: Grace Finazzo Ayes: all Nays: none
C. Upton House Painting Raffle
o The painting of the Upton House will be displayed in the Information Booth
during Sterlingfest. Cultural Commission members have committed to selling
tickets during Sterlingfest.
Jeanne Schabath will sell tickets Friday, 7/26, until 9 p.m.
Eboni LaMar is available on Saturday
Maurice Batarseh will sell tickets Saturday, 7/27, in the Suds’n’Sounds
tent
Volunteers are still needed to sell on Thursday. Call Karen if you are able
to sell on the first day of the festival.
o Motion to sell raffle tickets for the painting of the Upton House for $2 each, 3-$5,
7-$10, 15-$20 made by Maurice Batarseh.

Motion to sell raffle tickets for the painting of the Upton House for $1 each, 8-$5,
16-$10 made by Josephine Berthet.

NEW BUSINESS:
Maurice Batarseh recommends gluten free items be available at next year’s Sterlingfest
jury night.
Motion to adjourn the Cultural Commission meeting at 6:40 p.m. made by Peggy Frontiera.

Cultural Commission members reviewed all artist applications for Sterlingfest.
