STERLING HEIGHTS CULTURAL COMMISSION Minutes of Wednesday, November 6, 2013 Meeting Location: Sterling Heights City Hall, 40555 Utica Road, Sterling Heights, MI 48313, Conference Room 202, 6 p.m. Members Present: Ronald Bindle, David Bollman, Frank DiMaria, Grace Finazzo, Margaret Frontiera, Jeanne Schabath Donald Schinzing, John Stampor Members Absent: Maurice Batarseh, Josephine Berthet, Jan Burns, Eboni LaMar Representing the City: Steve Guitar, Karen Kazmer Meeting called to order at 6:07 p.m. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Motion to approve the meeting minutes of the October 1, 2013 Cultural Commission made by Ron Bindle. Seconded by: Grace Finazzo Ayes: all Nays: none AGENDA ITEMS: A. Sterling Heights Featured Artist o David Bollman provided applications for the Featured Artist Program to the Shelby Art Group. o Frank DiMaria requested applications for the program which he will distribute to the Senior Center. o Motion to select Dee Maggio as February-March 2014 Featured Artist of the Month made by Frank DiMaria. Seconded by: Jeanne Schabath Discussion on the pictures submitted by Ms. Maggio portrays only dogs; Ms. Schabath will contact artist and request other pictures be submitted. Motion revised to select Dee Maggio as February-March 2014 Featured Artist of the Month after review of additional work made by Frank DiMaria. Ayes: all Nays: none B. Memorial Day Parade o Frank DiMaria suggested prize money be awarded for floats that are decorated per the theme of parade. o Motion to award $200 for first place float, $75 second place float and $50 to first ten float applicants made by Frank DiMaria. Seconded by: John Stampor Ayes: all Nays: none o Commission members will brainstorm on a theme for the 2014 Memorial Day Parade. Ideas to be directed to the Community Relations Department.  C. December Meeting o Ron & Barb Bindle will host the Cultural Commission’s Christmas Party on December 13th, 7 p.m. Community Relations will send invite, via email. NEW BUSINESS: o Nomination & election of officers of the Cultural Commission will be held at the January 2014 meeting. ADJOURNMENT: Motion to adjourn at 6:35 p.m. made by Margaret Frontiera.
