STERLING HEIGHTS CULTURAL COMMISSION Minutes of Tuesday, March 4, 2014 Meeting Location: Sterling Heights City Hall, 40555 Utica Road, Sterling Heights, MI 48313, Conference Room 202, 6 p.m. Members Present: Maurice Batarseh, Jan Burns, Frank DiMaria, Grace Finazzo, Margaret Frontiera, Donald Schinzing, John Stampor Members Absent: Josephine Berthet, Ronald Bindle, David Bollman, Eboni LaMar, Jeanne Schabath Representing the City: Steve Guitar, Karen Kazmer Meeting called to order at 6 p.m. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Motion to approve the meeting minutes of the November 6, 2013 Cultural Commission made by Frank DiMaria. Seconded by: Grace Finazzo Ayes: all Nays: none AGENDA ITEMS: A. Sterling Heights Featured Artist  The Interfaith Center for Racial Justice has been selected as the April 2014 Featured Artist.  Motion to select Andrew Furton as the Featured Artist for May-June 2014 made Frank DiMaria. Seconded by: Jan Burns Ayes: all Nays: none  Pictures from artist KaraLynn Kinsman will be emailed to commission members for review. Members will vote via email for Ms. Kinsman as August-September 2014 Featured Artist.  Frank DiMaria has volunteered to be present at the Featured Artist Media Presentations.  Mr. DiMaria stated art classes are no longer held at the Senior Center. B. Memorial Day Parade  Motion to select Tim Malone as the 2014 Grand Marshal of the Sterling Heights Memorial Day Parade made by Don Schinzing. Seconded by John Stampor Ayes: all Nays: none  Community Relations will mail official letter to Mr. Malone; Mr. Malone will provide a bio.  Jan Burns & Margaret Frontiera have volunteered to carry the banner. C. Sterlingfest  Pre-jury process will be discussed at April 1st commission meeting.   Commission members determined volunteers on the pre-jury committee will not be artists who have applied for Sterlingfest entry.  Sterlingfast will take place on Saturday morning of Sterlingfest. D. Election of Officers  Nominations for Chair & Vice-Chair: Chair: Don Schinzing; Vice Chair: Frank DiMaria  Motion to elect Don Schinzing as Chair of the Cultural Commission made by Jan Burns. Seconded by: Frank DiMaria Ayes: all Nays: none  Motion to elect Frank DiMaria as Vice-Chair of the Cultural Commission made by Grace Finazzo. Seconded by: Margaret Frontiera Ayes: all Nays: none Motion to adjourn at 6:50 made by Peggy Frontiera.
