STERLING HEIGHTS CULTURAL COMMISSION Minutes of Tuesday, April 1, 2014 Meeting Location: Sterling Heights City Hall, 40555 Utica Road, Sterling Heights, MI 48313, Conference Room 202, 6 p.m. Members Present: Maurice Batarseh, Josephine Berthet, Ronald Bindle, David Bollman, Jan Burns, Frank DiMaria, Grace Finazzo, Jeanne Schabath, Donald Schinzing Members Absent: Margaret Frontiera, Eboni LaMar, John Stampor Representing the City: Steve Guitar, Karen Kazmer Meeting called to order at 6 p.m. APPROVAL OF MINUTES : Motion to approve the meeting minutes of the March 4, 2014 Cultural Commission made by Grace Finazzo. Seconded by: Jan Burns Ayes: all Nays: none AGENDA ITEMS: A. Sterling Heights Featured Artist  Commission members reviewed the application from Kara Lynn Kinsman; Karen Kazmer will email Ms. Kinsman to inquire if a wider variety of artwork with a variation of application is available for presentation. B. Memorial Day Parade  An overview of applications and donations was reviewed.  David Bollman will contact the Macomb County Jazz Band to inquire if they are interested in marching in the parade. C. Sterlingfest  Commission members discussed the pre-jury process.  Motion for the Cultural Commission members to jury artist applications to Sterlingfest and to only consider applicants who have provided the requested criteria; accepted applicants will be based on a majority rules, made by Maurice Batarseh. Seconded by: Jeanne Schabath Ayes: all Nays: none th  Artist applications will be juried at the May 6 meeting; a power point presentation will be viewed. NEW BUSINESS:  Donald Schinzing suggested the Cultural Commission be renamed.  Jeanne Schabath suggested prior Featured Artists provide a sampling of artwork to be displayed at Sterlingfest. .
