STERLING HEIGHTS CULTURAL COMMISSION Minutes of Tuesday, January 6, 2015 Meeting Location: Sterling Heights City Hall, 40555 Utica Road, Sterling Heights, MI 48313, Conference Room 202 Members Present: Ron Bindle, Frank DiMaria, Grace Finazzo, Margaret Frontiera, Jeanne Schabath, Donald Schinzing, John Stampor, Shawn Taylor, Mona Yassine Members Absent: Maurice Batarseh, David Bollman, Jan Burns Representing the City: Bridget Doyle & Karen Kazmer Meeting called to order at 6 p.m. Commission members introduced welcomed Bridget Doyle, new Community Relations Director for the city of Sterling Heights; introductions were made. APPROVAL OF MINUTES : Motion to approve the meeting minutes of the November 4, 2014 Cultural Commission made by Grace Finazzo. Seconded by: Margaret Frontiera Ayes: all Nays: none AGENDA ITEMS : A. Featured Artist  Commission members reviewed Dominic Orow’s application for Featured Artist.  Pictures from Orow’s web site were available for review; several artwork pictures were displayed on 8 ½ x 11 paper  Commission members requested a link to Orow’s web site be emailed in order to review application correctly  Members will email Karen Kazmer their decision of Orow’s selection as Featured Artist; members are requested to email no later than Monday, January 12th B. Memorial Day Parade  Ron Bindle prepared a list of guidelines for judging bands performing in the parade.  SHTV staging will be near Stevenson High School; signs will alert bands of the area.  Judging criteria will be available to all bands.  Don Schinzing recommended Rich Schoonover as a “Parade Honorary Grand Marshal”. Mr. Schoonover’s great-grandfather was in the Civil War and his father is a Vet. Motion to select Rich Schoonover as the 2015 Memorial Day Parade Honorary Grand Marshal made by Jeanne Schabath. Seconded by: Margaret Fronteria Ayes: all Nays: none C. Sterlingfest  Applications for Sterlingfest will be mailed the end of January. D. Election of Officers  Motion to elect Donald Schinzing as Chair of the Cultural Commission made by Margaret Frontiera. Seconded by: Jeanne Schabath Ayes: all Nays: none  Motion to elect Frank DiMaria as Vice-Chair of the Cultural Commission made by Margaret Frontiera. Seconded by: Mona Yassine Ayes: all Nays: none NEW BUSINESS:  Ron Bindle will be out of town for the February and March meetings. OLD BUSINESS:  Don Schinzing will coordinate an outing to the glass blowing facility if evening hours are available. Motion to adjourn at 6:50 p.m. made by Margaret Frontiera.
