STERLING HEIGHTS ARTS COMMISSION Minutes of Tuesday, October 6 , 2015 Meeting Location: Sterling Heights City Hall, 40555 Utica Road, Sterling Heights, MI 48313, Conference Room Members Present: Ron Bindle, David Bollman, Jan Burns, Frank DiMaria, Grace Finazzo, Donald Schinzing, John Stampor Members Absent: Maurice Batarseh, Margaret Frontiera, Jeanne Schabath, Shawn Taylor, Mona Yassine Representing the City: Bridget Doyle, Karen Kazmer Meeting called to order at 6:10 p.m. APPROVAL OF MINUTES : Motion to approve the meeting minutes of the September 1, 2015 Art Commission made by Grace Finazzo. Seconded by: John Stampor Ayes: all Nays: none AGENDA ITEMS : A. Featured Artist  No applications were received for review.  Consider allowing high school artists for the program Motion to accept high school students as a Featured Artist made by Grace Finazzo. Seconded by: Ron Bindle Ayes: all Nays: none  Contact stores (Michaels, Joanns, Hobby Lobby) for gift cards to be given to selected Featured Artists  Select a theme for certain months (May-Mother’s Day, June- Father’s Day, etc) and contact schools to encourage students to apply  Community Relations will promote Featured Artist Program on social media B. Memorial Day Parade  Theme ideas for 2016 Memorial Day Parade: “Forget Me Not” and Stars & Stripes.  Ray Nadolski and Steve Bilan will be contacted for referral suggestions for Parade Marshal. C. Oracle Fund  Endowment agreement between the Sterling Heights Community Foundation and Art Commission needs to be executed. D. Commission Member Proxy Voting Motion to allow only commission members in attendance of meeting be allowed to vote on issues brought to the table made by Jan Burns. Seconded by: Ron Bindle Ayes: all Nays: none OLD BUSINESS :  Artwork along the Sculpture Walk will be painted and/or cleaned in Spring 2016 and new plaques will be made for each piece of artwork. NEW BUSINESS:  D.I.A. Away Mobile Exhibit will be on display on Thursday, October 8th, in Dodge Park.  Ron Bindle reported 54 paintings by Jerry Power are on display at the Charlevoix Art Center.  Ron Bindle and his wife will host the Christmas Party on December 19th.
