Minutes of Tuesday, January 5, 2016 Meeting
Location: Sterling Heights City Hall, 40555 Utica Road, Sterling Heights, MI

Members Present: Ron Bindle, Jan Burns, Frank DiMaria, Grace Finazzo,
Margaret Frontiera, Jeanne Schabath, John Stampor, Shawn Taylor, Mona
Yassine
Members Absent: Maurice Batarseh, David Bollman
Representing the City: Bridget Doyle, Karen Kazmer
Meeting called to order at 6:00 p.m.
COMMUNICATION FROM CITIZENS:
Stephen Bilan offered to assist Art Commission members with the selection of the
Grand Marshal for the 2016 Memorial Day Parade. Mr. Bilan is the Commander
of the American Legion.
Motion to allow Stephen Bilan to select the Grand Marshal for the 2016 Memorial
Day Parade and Ceremony made by Ron Bindle.
Seconded by: Margaret Frontiera Ayes: all Nays: none
APPROVAL OF MINUTES :
Motion to approve the meeting minutes of the November 4, 2015 Art Commission
made by Ron Bindle.
Seconded by: Grace Finazzo Ayes: all Nays: none
AGENDA ITEMS :
A. Oracle Endowment Fund
Dr. Martin Brown, President of the Sterling Heights Community
Foundation attended the meeting to answer questions on the
endowment agreement between the Foundation and Art Commission.
Permanent endowment is established with a minimum of $5,000; as
of November 15, 2015 $6,385 is in fund.
$1,385 available immediately for spending.
Ron Bindle questioned the $3,750 received from Sterlingfast; Karen
Kazmer will check with bookkeeper of Community Foundation.
Art Commission members authorized the 2016 Chair to sign
endowment fund agreement.
B. Featured Artist
Motion to select Kenneth Pilarski as Featured Artist for Feburary-
March 2016 made by Jeanne Schabath.
Seconded by Grace Finazzo Ayes: all Nays: none
C. Memorial Day Parade
Art Commission members reviewed participant application for parade.
Due to road construction on Dodge Park Road, the parade route will be
shortened. Frank DiMaria requested a letter detailing the route
changes be included with applications.
D. Sterlingfest
Construction on city property will be taking place during Sterlingfest
which will alter the artist booth lay-out. Community Relations will have
a map of the area to share with commission at the February meeting.
E. Election of 2016 Officers
Motion to elect Jeanne Schabath as Chair and Ron Bindle as Co-Chair
made by Mona Yassine.
Seconded by: John Stampor Ayes: all Nays: none
OLD BUSINESS:
Bridget Doyle invited commission members to the Strategic Planning
Meeting to show support of the Public Art Plan. Meeting will be held in
Council Chambers on January 26th at 7 pm.
NEW BUSINESS:
Jeanne Schabath introduced the concept of Art in the Park 2016 to be held
in Dodge Park once a month May thru September.
Initial cost to Art Commission would be $1,500-$1,700

Members concerned about interest from residents; suggested a
facebook survey.
Motion to adjourn at 7:20 p.m. made by John Stampor.
