STERLING HEIGHTS ARTS COMMISSION Minutes of Tuesday, September 6, 2016 Meeting Location: Sterling Heights City Hall, 40555 Utica Road, Sterling Heights, MI 48313, Conference Room 202 Members Present: Ron Bindle, David Bollman, Jan Burns, Judi Dent, Frank DiMaria, Margaret Frontiera, Jazmine Early, Grace Finazzo, Jeanne Schabath, John Stampor, Mona Yassine, Stacy Ziarko Representing the City: Bridget Doyle, Karen Kazmer Meeting called to order at 6:00 COMMUNICATION FROM CITIZENS: Joe Burns presented a check for $2,750 from Sterlingfast. 470 runners registered for the race and 460 finished. WELCOME: Jeanne Schabath welcomed Stacy Ziarko as a new member to the Art Commission. PRESENTATION: An 11 minute video on Recreating Recreation is being presented during each commission meeting in September. APPROVAL OF MINUTES : Motion to approve the meeting minutes of the June 8, 2016 Art Commission made by John Stampor. Seconded by: Frank DiMaria Ayes: all Nays: none AGENDA ITEMS : A. Sterlingfest Review  Jeanne Schabath and Ron Bindle combined positive and negative remarks from artists and attendees of Sterlingfest:  Art Commission members need to recognized as “artist support” on Sterlingfest badges  Positive feedback on new booth area  Positive feedback on Sterlingfast  Artist parking will be revamped in 2017  Police will enforce handicap parking  Portapotties will be moved away from artist area  Artists leaving early will not be allowed in following year  Enforcement of artist selling only juried in artwork  Recommendations for 2017 Sterlingfest:  Additional artist awards given: suggestion to let artist vote on “vendor choice” award  Artists should receive a survey at the end of Sterlingfest which can be mailed or emailed back  A “warning letter” available to be given to any artists with “buy/sell”  Water and Gatorade available for volunteers working artist area  Area for children to sell handmade items  Jazmine Early suggested the Library be opened on Friday morning. B. Art in the Park  Jeanne Schabath volunteered for the Art in the Park on Thursday, September 8th.  Jeanne Schabath suggested more Art in the Park events in 2017.  Jeanne Schabath would like a winter event by this artist. OLD BUSINESS:  Ron Bindle inquired of monies available to spend in the endowment fund with the Community Foundation; the sculptures will be repaired with available funds. NEW BUSINESS:  David Bollman was part of the ESAS (East Side Art Show) through the city of St. Clair Shores. Jeanne Schabath will investigate.
