STERLING HEIGHTS ARTS COMMISSION Minutes of Tuesday, October 4, 2016 Meeting Location: Sterling Heights City Hall, 40555 Utica Road, Sterling Heights, MI 48313, Conference Room 202 Members Present: Ron Bindle, David Bollman, Jan Burns, Frank DiMaria, Margaret Frontiera, Jazmine Early, Grace Finazzo, Jeanne Schabath, John Stampor, Mona Yassine, Stacy Ziarko Members Absent: Judi Dent Representing the City: Bridget Doyle, Karen Kazmer Meeting called to order at 6:00 APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Motion to approve the meeting minutes of the September 6, 2016 Art Commission made by Frank DiMaria . Seconded by: John Stampor Ayes: all Nays: none AGENDA ITEMS: A. Featured Artist • Motion to select Fay Akers as Featured Artist for December 2016-January 2017 made by Ron Bindle. Seconded by: Peggy Frontiera Ayes: all Nays: none • Motion to select Joseph Tpompeter as Featured Artist for February-March 2017 made by Frank DiMaria.Jazmine Early suggested the Library be Seconded by: John Stampor Ayes: all Nays: none B. Memorial Day Parade • Jeanne Schabath is meeting with Stephan Bilan and will request he make a suggestion for the 2017 Grand Marshal. • Bridget Doyle recommends the theme of the parade be relevant to the Vietnam War. OLD BUSINESS: • The Art Commission has approximately $7,850 to spend in the endowment fund with the Community Foundation. • Bridget Doyle stated the Public Art Program will be presented to City Council at the Strategic Planning Meeting in January 2017; Bridget requests the support of the Art Commission. NEW BUSINESS: • Jeanne Schabath is on the planning committee for the City of Sterling Heights 50th Anniversary in 2018. Ms. Schabath presented ideas to the Art Commission and requested participation that year.  • Mona Yassine suggested the Art Commission sponsor a membership club for children ages 5-16. ü Club would meet once a month in Library Programming Center or Senior Center ü Each month would have a theme and members would draw a picture ü Art Commission members would judge entries for that month and select a winner; winner would receive a gift card ü Each year the winners of each month would be the Art Commission “Featured Artist” ANNOUNCEMENT: • Jeanne Schabath will be out of town for the November meeting. Motion to adjourn meeting at 7 p.m. made by John Stampor.
