STERLING HEIGHTS ARTS COMMISSION Minutes of Tuesday, November 1 , 2016 Meeting Location: Sterling Heights City Hall, 40555 Utica Road, Sterling Heights, MI 48313, Conference Room 202 Members Present: Ron Bindle, Judi Dent, Frank DiMaria, Jazmine Early, John Stampor, Mona Yassine, Stacy Ziarko Members Absent: David Bollman, Jan Burns, Margaret Frontiera, Grace Finazzo, Jeanne Schabath Representing the City: Bridget Doyle, Karen Kazmer Meeting called to order at 6:00 APPROVAL OF MINUTES : Motion to approve the meeting minutes of the October 4, 2016 Art Commission made by John Stampor . Seconded by: Stacy Ziarko Ayes: all Nays: none AGENDA ITEMS : A. Featured Artist  No applications were received for review for the Featured Artist program. B. Memorial Day Parade  Stacy Ziarko was informed of a resident of Sterling Heights, Greg Bowman, who is a Vietnam Vet. Commission members are considering Mr. Bowman as the Grand Marshal of the Parade.  A theme for the parade will be decided in January. C. Children Art Program  Bridget Doyle & Karen Kazmer met with the Library regarding the Children Art Program  No charge for the Programming Center  Suggested program meets once a quarter  Recommends students in 4th-8th grades  Mona Yassine recommends holding the program at Parks & Recreation; Ms. Doyle will check with P&R.  Mrs. Yassine will meet with UCS art teachers regarding this program.  Ms. Doyle suggested art teachers be invited to an upcoming Art Commission meeting to help brainstorm this idea. OLD BUSINESS:  Bridget Doyle reminded members to attend the Strategic Planning Meeting on January 26, 2017 to support the Public Art Program.  Jeanne Schabath is working on a time capsule for the 50th Anniversary in 2018.
