STERLING HEIGHTS ARTS COMMISSION Minutes of Tuesday, June 6, 2017 Meeting Location: Sterling Heights City Hall, 40555 Utica Road, Sterling Heights, MI 48313, Conference Room 202 Members Present: Ron Bindle, David Bollman, Jan Burns, Jazmine Early, Jeanne Schabath, John Stampor, Mona Yassine, Stacy Ziarko Members Absent: Frank DiMaria, Grace Finazzo Representing the City: Bridget Kozlowski, Karen Kazmer Meeting called to order at 6:10 APPROVAL OF MINUTES : Motion to approve the meeting minutes of the May 2, 2017 Art Commission made by Mona Yassine. Seconded by: John Stampor Ayes: all Nays: none Erik Nordine of Detroit Design Center spoke on the proposed sculpture which is part of the Public Art Program. If funding for this project is approved at the June 20, 2017 City Council meeting, Mr. Nordine will construct a sculpture to be placed in the roundabout at Dodge Park & Utica Roads. Art Commission members interest in giving their “10 words that represent Sterling Heights” for consideration of the sculpture should email Bridget Kozlowski by June 13th. AGENDA ITEMS : A. Memorial Day Parade  Commission members selected band and float winners:  Best of Show Band: Sterling Heights High School  Runner-Up Best of Show Band: Stevenson High School  Best Float: Right to Life  Runner-Up Float: Boy Scout Troop 154 B. Sterling fest  Three applications for the Children’s Art Area were received; all three applicants were accepted.  A sign up list will be emailed to commission members in early July. C. Art in the Park  June 15th and July 20th are the dates of the Art in the Park, 3-5 p.m. Kids Painting, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Adults Painting.  At least two members of the Art Commission will be needed at each session; volunteers signed up:  Jeanne Schabath committed to volunteer at each session  Jazmine Early July 20  Mona Yassine committed to volunteer at each session Motion to adjourn meeting at 7:31 p.m. made by Jan Burns.
