STERLING HEIGHTS BEAUTIFICATION COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012 Chairman Wawrzyniak called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. Commissioner’s present: Jennifer Abed, Henrietta Baczewski, Darlene MacLeod, Ruthann Schinzing, Aaron Wawrzyniak, Josh MacKinnon Commissioner’s absent: Jazmine Early, Steve Duncan, Jim Francis, Gary Isom, Kate Jiles, Sharon Mason Others present: Steve Guitar, Community Relations Director Bill Driskell, Community Relations Motion to approve meeting minutes from the Nov. 7, 2011 Sterling Heights Beautification Commission meeting. Ayes: all Nays: none Agenda Items: A. America In Bloom presentation Karl Eckert from Eckert’s greenhouse presented a power point on the America In Bloom national awards program. Launched in 2001, the program allows cities in comparable population categories to compete by performing beautification efforts on public, residential and commercial property. It’s a long-term project that the city may want to consider starting in 1-2 years, should there be a consensus to do so. Eckert’s would pick up registration costs. The board thanked Mr. Eckert and said they will further consider the program once more members are present. B. Adopt A Road dates for 2012 The board agreed on the following dates: May 5, 2012; June 2, 2012, July 21, 2012 and Sept. 8, 2012. Starting time is 9 a.m. Community Relations Director Steve Guitar told the group that the Tree City Award presentation will take place before the City Council April 17, 2012. C. Election of officers. Motion by Darlene MacLeod to re-elect Chairman Aaron Wawrzyniak and Vice Chairman Gary Isom. Seconded by Ruthann Schinzing. Ayes: All Nays: None New Business: Commissioner Baczewski informed the group that Utica has agreed to be part of the September 2012 BCSEM luncheon in Sterling Heights. Shelby Township will also participate. Event will be held in the city’s Senior Activity Center. Motion to adjourn made by Darlene MacLeod, seconded by Josh MacKinnon.
