Sterling Heights Historical Commission November 1, 2012 40433 Utica Road Sterling Heights, MI 48313 Minutes of Meeting 1. Call to Order Meeting was called to order at 6:05 p.m. 2. Roll Call Present: John Conner, Frank DiMaria, Douglas J. Harvey, Ruthann Schinzing, Scott Townsend Absent: George Kurzatkowski Staff Present: Tammy Turgeon 3. Approval of Agenda Motion made by Townsend to approve the agenda, seconded by DiMaria. Motion carried. 4. Minutes of September 6, 2012 Minutes of the September 6, 2012 meeting were approved on a motion by Townsend, supported by Schinzing. Motion carried. 5. Communications/Reports/Correspondence Commission members continue to receive local historical groups’ newsletters forwarded to them via email. 6. Unfinished Business A. Historical Display in Library Need someone to volunteer to do a display in the Spring. Would need to know subject area by February meeting. B. Historical Marker Program Commission determined that homes need to be built before 1950. Turgeon will inquire with the city’s Assessing department to find out how many homes are eligible. Signs will be purchased from Home Depot. Turgeon will do a press release. C. Macomb County Heritage Alliance – Patch Program Turgeon will take drawings to the Embroidery shop to see which one will work better. D. Bylaws Revision This will be done at the next meeting. E. Scrapbook and Clippings Harvey continues to do this. Other commissioners are welcome to assist. Please call the library before you want to come so that someone can be available to provide instructions. 7. New Business A. Sterling Christmas Decorating will be done on Monday, November 19th at 6pm. Schinzing will go to house on November 16th to organize. Commission members should arrive at 5:45pm for a short meeting on December 1st before the Upton House opens for Sterling Christmas. B. Spring/Summer Magazine Article Pages were cut from the Winter Magazine so no Historical Commission page was included. A page will be included for the Spring/Summer magazine. Conner would like to do an article about Dodge Park for this magazine. It will be due in February. 8. Communication from Citizens Thank you to Frank DiMaria for conducting an Upton House tour with Debbie Vercellone for a school group. Debbie wrote up instructions for Upton House tours that the Commission members can use for future tours. 9. Adjourn A motion was made by Townsend to adjourn, seconded by DiMaria. Motion carried.
