Sterling Heights Historical Commission February 7, 2013 40433 Utica Road Sterling Heights, MI 48313 Minutes of Meeting I. Call to Order Meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. II. Roll Call Present: John Connor, Frank DiMaria, Douglas J. Harvey, Ruthann Schinzing, Scott Townsend Absent: George Kurzatkowski Staff Present: Tammy Turgeon III. Approval of Agenda Motion made by DiMaria to approve the agenda, seconded by Connor. Motion carried. IV. Minutes of November 1, 2012 Minutes of the November 1, 2012 meeting were approved on a motion by DiMaria, supported by Connor. Motion carried. V. Communications/Reports/Correspondence Commission members continue to receive local historical groups’ newsletters forwarded to them via email. VI. Unfinished Business A. Sterling Christmas Went well. 697 attendees. Ideas for next year: dress in period costume, take pictures of kids at school desk. B. Spring/Summer Magazine Article Commissioner John Connor wrote an article about Dodge Park and the Dodge brothers. C. Historical Commission Bylaws Revision Motion made by Schinzing to approve the revised Historical Commission Bylaws, seconded by Townsend. Motion carried. D. Historical Display in Library Connor will provide automobile items for the display case for the Spring/Summer. E. Clippings and Scrapbook A library volunteer is currently assisting with the historical scrapbook and clippings. Commissioners are welcome to volunteer also. F. Historical Marker Program Turgeon is still working on getting forms finalized. G. Macomb County Heritage Alliance – Patch Program Turgeon is waiting for revised patch size information. VII. New Business A. Election of Chairperson Townsend was nominated for the Chairperson position and accepted the nomination. Motion to appoint Townsend as the Historical Commission Chairperson was made by Schinzing, supported by Harvey. Motion carried. B. Fall Magazine Article Turgeon will use the Upton House guide that was created by Debbie Vercellone to write an article about the Upton House for the Fall magazine. C. Historical Commission Program Art Woodford will be the speaker for the annual Historical Commission program to be held in May. A tree will be dedicated before the program in honor of F. James Dunlop. VIII. Communication from Citizens Turgeon was asked if city staff members can be on commissions or boards if they are residents of the city. Turgeon will investigate. IX. Adjourn A motion was made by Townsend to adjourn, seconded by DiMaria. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 6:50 p.m. Next meeting: May 2, 2013
