Sterling Heights Historical Commission February 1, 2018 40433 Utica Road Sterling Heights, MI 48313 Minutes of Meeting I. Call to Order Meeting was called to order at 6:07 p.m. by Mott. II. Roll Call Present: Cynthia Appleton, Frank DiMaria, Douglas J. Harvey, Meghan Mott, Steve Pomaville, Scott Townsend Staff Present: Tammy Turgeon Excused: John Connor III. Approval of Agenda Motion to approve the agenda was made by Townsend, supported by Pomaville. Motion carried. IV. Minutes of November 2, 2017 Motion to approve the minutes of the November 2, 2017 meeting was made by Townsend, supported by Harvey. Motion carried. V. Communications/Reports/Correspondence Commission members continue to receive local historical groups’ newsletters forwarded to them via email. VI. Unfinished Business A. Names Project The document is on google docs so that everyone can update it. This is an ongoing project and will be used for the bus tour. B. Oral History Conversion Project No additional work has been done on this yet. C. Wikipedia Page Mott wants to conduct an editathon. Will mention at the MCHA Annual meeting on April 28th to organize something for the Fall. D. Historical Display in Library Townsend has photos and is working with daughter on this. Should be completed by March. E. Clippings and Scrapbook Volunteer names were gathered at Volunteer Fair. Turgeon will ask Vercellone if volunteers have started working on this. F. City of Sterling Heights Book Book was published in December and is on sale at the Library, City Hall and the Upton House. G. Historical Marker Program No new applications. H. City’s 50th Anniversary 1. Tour of City Turgeon, Harvey and Mott will drive the tour route on February 22nd to come up with other ideas of things to mention on the tour. Townsend, Turgeon and Mott will be the tour guides. Harvey, DiMaria and Appleton will be the backups/helpers. Commissioners requested a minimum age of 10 for the tour. 2. Memorial Day Parade Turgeon will complete the application. Turgeon will request banner from DPW. I. CDBG Grant Application Request for bids is out now. Waiting for proposals. J. Summer City Magazine Article Turgeon wrote an article about the bus tour, time capsule, the city book and Macomb County 200th anniversary passport program. K. May Historical Program Debbie Vercellone will do a program about the new city book for the program on May 16th. L. Purchasing Items for the Upton House Turgeon will provide a report at the May meeting about the funds available after purchase of the mannequins, clothing and curtains. Mott indicated Cindy Donohue from the County had some Upton items. Mott will participate in reenactments on March 25th and April 28th. M. A Sterling Christmas $51 was collected and 681 people visited the Upton House. N. Utica Sentinel Digitization Grant The group came in 2nd place again for the contest. We will be considering a gofundme type campaign to fund the digitization. VII. New Business A. Fall City Magazine Article Appleton will write the article. Turgeon will send her Al Martin’s contact information. VIII. Communications from Citizens Charlie Green, resident, introduced himself. Attended meeting based on his interest in history and provided information about the history of his home. IX. Adjourn Motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Appleton, seconded by Pomaville. Motion carried. Meeting ended at 7:27 p.m. Next meeting: May 3, 2018 at 6 p.m.
