The meeting was called to order by Chairman Oaks on Tuesday, May 2,2023 at the Voter Registration Office located at 440 Market Street, Suffolk, Virginia at 9:01 a.m. FIRST ORDER oF BUSINESS: chairman oaks read the minutes of the March 7,2023 Board meeting and the Aprr], 26,2023 closed board meeting. Chairman oaks motioned to approve each set of minutes as written. Secretary Baker seconded the motion. The minutes were approved with a unanimous vote of ves. OLD BUSINE SS: The Registrar reported that the relocation ofthe ballot drop_ box and surveil lance camera from the Airport precinct to the whaleyviile precinct was a success. The camera monitoring feed into the office computer was completed. NEW BUSINESS: Vice-Chairman Rowlands requested that the General Registrar give a report on the Statewide Deceased Voter Audit. During the month of April, the State audited the VERIS system to have deceased voters removed from the rolls. Suffolk removed 362 deceased voters. A revision of the Election Official Training Manual and a new Officer of Election Evaluation Form were submitted by the Registrar . The Registrar gave a repoft on the Statewide voter placement audit of the 2022 redistricting. There were over 18,000 misplaced voters across the State. Suffolk corrected 336 voters. CLOSED SESSION: At9l'20 A.M., Secretary Baker rnoved that the Board convene in closed session pursuant to the Code of Virginia 2.2-371I to discuss a personnel matter. The motion was seconded and unanimously passed. The Board reconvened in open session at9:26 A.M. Mr. Baker certified that pursuant to the Code of Virginia 2.2-3711 only business identified in the motion to close was discussed. The vote of agreement was a unanimous yes. Mr. Baker moved that Burdette Lawrence be appointed as General Registrar for the City of Suffolk. Chairman Oaks seconded the motion. The motion was passed by a unanimous vote of yes. The Electoral Board congratulated Mrs. Lawrence on her appointment. ADJOURNMENT: The meeting was adjoumed at 9:28 A. M. Jim Oaks, Chairman ( rent Rowlands, Vice- hairman Isaac Baker, Secretary
