City of Sunnyvale Meeting Minutes - Final Board of Library Trustees Monday, June 1, 2015 7:00 PM Library Program Room, Sunnyvale Public Library, 665 W. Olive Ave., Sunnyvale, CA 94086 CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 7:04 p.m. ROLL CALL Present: 4 - Chair Jill Shanmugasundaram Board Member Carey Wingyin Lai Board Member Daniel Bremond Board Member Su "Ray" Zhan Council Liaison David Whittum (absent). PRESENTATION 15-0505 Recognition of Service Mayor Griffith presented Board Member Su with a certificate of appreciation for his service while on the Board. Mayor Griffith also noted that June will be the last Board meeting for Director Rosenblum. He thanked her for all her service to the City. Director Rosenblum presented Board Member Su with a Sunnyvale Public Library Gold Card. Chair Shanmugasundaram presented Director Rosenblum with a Sunnyvale Public Library Gold Card in honor of her service to the City. PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENTS Mayor Griffith noted that during the Council Budget Workshop on Thursday, May 21, a recommendation to allocate $75,000 to the Library materials budget was proposed and accepted. Council will adopt FY 2015/2016 budget at their Tuesday, June 23 meeting. The motion carried by the following vote: Yes: 4 - Chair Shanmugasundaram Board Member Lai Board Member Bremond Board Member Zhan No: 0 PUBLIC COMMENTS None. PUBLIC HEARINGS/GENERAL BUSINESS 2 15-0508 Study Issues Director Rosenblum provided the Board with an overview of the Study Issues process and inquired if the Board would like to recommend a Study Issue for calendar year 2016. No Study Issues were presented. Chair Shanmugasundaram opened the public hearing, and there being no public testimonies, closed the public hearing. NON-AGENDA ITEMS & COMMENTS -Board Member Comments Board Members expressed their appreciation for Director Rosenblum. Chair Shanmugasundaram noted that with Board Member Su's departure, there will be two vacancies on the Board of Library Trustees. She suggested Board Members share information about the Board and recruitment process with Sunnyvale residents they think might be interested in serving on the Board. Board Member Bremond mentioned he would request Leadership Sunnyvale make an announcement regarding Board/Commission recruitment. City of Sunnyvale Page 2 Board of Library Trustees Meeting Minutes - Final June 1, 2015 -Staff Comments Director Rosenblum noted the following: - The new Automated Materials Handling System has been installed and should be working within a week. - This year the Library will be having a kick off event for the Summer Reading Program on Saturday, June 6 featuring entertainment from Carnival Chaos, Nancy Cassidy and San Jose Taiko; with food, giveaways and more. Thank you to the Friends of the Sunnyvale Public Library for funding the event. - The Library hosted it's Annual Volunteer Recognition event on Wednesday, May 20. Approximately 40 volunteers were recognized for their dedication and service to the community. - The July Board meeting will be canceled. - The City Manager will be appointing an Interim Library and Community Services Director. INFORMATION ONLY ITEMS 15-0530 Revisions to Council Policy 7.2.19: Boards and Commissions Chair Shanmugasundaram noted that Council approved revised Council Policy 7.2.19: Boards and Commissions.
