SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING (Study Session) 1 Call to Order in the West Conference Room (Open to the Public) Vice Mayor Jim Davis called the meeting to order at 6 p.m. 2 Roll Call Present: 7 - Mayor Jim Griffith Vice Mayor Jim Davis Councilmember David Whittum Councilmember Pat Meyering Councilmember Tara Martin-Milius Councilmember Glenn Hendricks Councilmember Gustav Larsson 3 Study Session 14-0044 Review of Design Alternatives for the Mathilda Avenue and Highway 237/101 Interchange Improvement Project Study Session Summary: Public Works Director, Kent Steffens, presented information about the design alternatives for the Mathilda Avenue and Highway 237/101 Interchange Improvement Project using a PowerPoint slide presentation. An overview was provided of project funding, schedule and details about design alternatives being considered at Highways 101 and 237. Further community outreach is planned as part of the environmental review phase of the project. No Council action was required at this time. Councilmembers asked questions, made comments and requested additional information. Councilmember Hendricks expressed support for the project and wanted the project to move forward as quickly as possible. Council requested that staff post a copy of the presentation materials to the City’s web site. City of Sunnyvale Page 1 City Council Meeting Minutes June 10, 2014 4 Public Comment Kevin Jackson stated the City should incorporate complete streets concepts into the design and get right-of-way when needed as development occurs. He expressed a concern that with the divergent diamond interchange concept that traffic signal cycle lengths could become very long. Mr. Jackson noted that he would like to see more details about how bicycles will be accommodated. Bonnie Lloyd expressed concern about construction impacts to businesses near Mathilda and Highway 101. A representative from Juniper Networks stated they like all of the designs. 5 Adjourn Special Meeting Vice Mayor Jim Davs adjourned the meeting at 6:55 p.m. City of Sunnyvale Page 2
