POLICE AND FIRE COMMISSION Minutes July 10th, 2024 Regular Meeting The meeting was called to order by Arthur Gil de Lamadrid at 5:17pm on July 10th, 2024 in Government Center Room 204. 1 CALL TO ORDER 2 ROLL CALL PRESENT: Akela Lloyd*, Tom Johnson, Brett Foote*(joined meeting at 5:19PM), Arthur Gil de Lamadrid ABSENT: Maria Cuzzo CITY STAFF PRESENT: HR Director Cammi Janigo, Police Chief Paul Winterscheidt*, Fire Chief Camron Vollbrecht, Nikki Kalan *Attended Virtually 3 RECOGNITION OF NOTICE TO PUBLIC 4 APPROVAL OF MINUTES 4.1 Police and Fire Commission (Special Meeting held 05/01/2024) Motion by Tom Johnson, second by Akela Lloyd, and carried to approve the minutes from 05/01/2024. 5 POLICE AND FIRE UPDATES The Police Department made a full offer to a candidate for the second Coordinated Response Specialist; they will start August 2024. Two police officer candidates will be attending recruit school this Summer and one applicant is currently going through the background process. The department is completing a property room audit, as well as a department equipment audit. No update on new squads from Ford. Members of the Fire Department toured departments in the Madison and Twin Cities area to get ideas for the upcoming renovations to Stations 2 and 3. Chief Vollbrecht briefly discussed recent trainings the department did. One new Firefighter started this month. 6 NEW BUSINESS 6.1 Letter from Chief Vollbrecht – Promotion, Dvorak 6.2 Letter from Chief Vollbrecht – Promotion, Staples 6.3 Letter from Chief Vollbrecht – Promotion, Freer MOTION to bundle items 6.1, 6.2, and 6.3 and receive and file by Tom Johnson, second by Akela Lloyd, and carried. 6.4 Letter from Chief Vollbrecht – Completion of Probation, Prendergast 6.5 Letter from Chief Vollbrecht – Completion of Probation, Elliot MOTION to bundle items 6.4 and 6.5 and approve by Tom Johnson, second by Brett Foote, and carried. Sergeant Bradley Jago completed his probationary period on May 14, 2024. I recommend that the Commission, at their next meeting or as soon as practical, move Sergeant Jago to a full tenured Police Sergeant in our department.
