OFFICIAL MINUTES SYKESVILLE PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION February 23, 2023 Present: Alex Ries Eric Valenstein Dominic Capparuccini Chris Sevick Nick Sheets Billy Shifflet Bryan Troast Liza Guroff, Council Liaison Staff: Joe Cosentini, Town Manager Jana Antrobus, Staff Liaison Call to Order Alex Ries, Co-Chair, called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM. Approval of the Minutes Motion was made by Co-Chair Ries and seconded by Commissioner Troast to approve the January 26 Minutes as presented. Commissioner Shifflet abstained All other voted in favor. Business New Event Planning – Skateboard Contest Jason, Shrimptown Skate Shop attended to answer questions and offer support for the event. Recommendations as follows: • Two styles of competition. o Jam Format – All participants skate at the same time and are judged. o Heat Format – Participants skate one at a time for judging in two-minute runs. • Computation from noon to 4:00 PM • Limit participants to the first 20 to sign up with a $5 entry fee. • Separate into 3 groups beginner, intermediate, and sponsored. • Shrimptown would provide registration location, judges and prizes. • Waiver to be considered staff will look into drafting. Motion Co-Chair Valenstein motioned and Commissioner Sevick seconded to approve the addition of a Skate Board Competition to the 2023 SPARC Event Schedule to be held on October 7. All voted in favor. Easter Egg Hunt (April7 10am to 12pm) & Scavenger Hunt Planning (April 7 to April 11) • Volunteers should arrive by 8:30 for setup. • Co-chair Valenstein has 6 to 8 volunteers for crafts and face painting. • Easter Bunny setup at the Buddy Bench for photos • Handouts – Scavenger Hunt Information, 2023 Event Schedule and Skateboard Contest Information. • Co-chair Reis and Commissioner Troast will setup, monitor and takedown Scavenger Hunt. OFFICIAL MINUTES SYKESVILLE PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION February 23, 2023 Choose Sykesville Cinema Movies • June 10 – Space Jam • July 8 (Christmas in July) – The Muppet Christmas Carol • August 12 – Encanto • September 9 – The Mighty Ducks • October 14 – Ghostbusters Motion Motion was made by Chair Reis and seconded by Commissioner Troast to approve the selected movies. All voted in favor. Approve 2023 Event Schedule Co-chair Valenstein will draft the Event Flyer for distribution. Motion Motion was made by Chair Ries and seconded by Commissioner Sevick to approve the 2023 SPARC Event Schedule. All voted in favor. Approve Easter Bunny Costume Purchase Motion Commissioner Troast motioned and Co-chair Valenstein seconded to approve the purchase of at Easter Bunny Costume costing $384.00. All voted in favor. Budget Requests: • Concrete pad for movie projector at Cooper Park • In ground anchors to secure the movie screen at Cooper Park • Easter Bunny Costume • Additional lighting for night events at Cooper Park • Facebook boost for advertising events • Message boards at Cooper Park and South Branch Park • Add toddler play equipment in Beach Park and access trail improvements • New concert banner (Commissioner Shifflet to research) • Small scale nature center Adjournment There being no other business, Chair Ries motioned and Commissioner Sevick seconded to adjourn the meeting at 8:30 PM.
