OFFICIAL MINUTES SYKESVILLE PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION March 23, 2023 Present: Alex Ries Eric Valenstein Dominic Capparuccini Chris Sevick Nick Sheets Liza Guroff, Council Liaison Staff: Joe Cosentini, Town Manager Jana Antrobus, Staff Liaison Absent: Billy Shifflet Bryan Troast Call to Order Alex Ries, Co-Chair, called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM. Approval of the Minutes Motion was made by Co-Chair Ries and seconded by Co-Chair Valenstein to approve the February 23 Minutes as presented. All voted in favor. Business Easter Egg Hunt (April 7 10am) and Scavenger Hunt (April 7 to April 11) Planning • Setup to begin at 8:30am • Volunteers confirmed by Co-Chair Valenstein and Commissioner Sevick • Display signs - 10 to 15 egg limit per child – Commissioner Sevick • Rope off Egg Hunt area and ask Mayor Link to cut the ribbon to start the Hunt. • Commissioner Sheets to pick up costumes and speaker system from the Town House prior to Friday • Commissioner Sheets will contact the Gate House Museum Curator to update her on the events and see how she wants to participate. • Commissioner to attend include: Co-Chair Ries, Commissioner’s Sevick, Sheets, Troast, Shifflet, and Capparuccini. Staff will also attend. • Commissioner Troast will organize the Scavenger Hunt and Staff will purchase the gift certificates for the drawing • Staff will print flyers for Summer Events and Scavenger Hunt Instructions for volunteers to add to grab bags. Spring Park Cleanup April 22, 9am to 12pm • Cleanup at Millard Cooper Park and Gatehouse Museum grounds • Commissioners to attend include: Co-Chairs Ries and Valenstein, Commissioner’s Sevick, Sheets, and Capparuccini. • SPARC to do a site visit to determine what they want to do to improve the park and Gatehouse appearance and notify staff what needs to be arranged ahead of time. Such as: Planting flowers, adding flower pots around the snack shack, mulch areas beside the playground and weed. OFFICIAL MINUTES SYKESVILLE PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION March 23, 2023 Note: SPARC has been invited to attend Springfield Arbor Day on April 21 and the Arbor Day Celebration and Tree Planting on April 28. Banner and Movie Sign Design/Purchase • Add to April’s Agenda for discussion Summer Events • Concerts in the Park – No update • Skateboard Contest – Chair Ries will provide a schedule during the April meeting and will share with Shrimptown for input. • Sykesville Cinema o Movie licensing complete (Total cost $1800) o Co-Chair Ries will get the Food Permit from the Health Department o Movie Sponsorship ▪ Keep prices the same as 2022 ▪ Co-Chair Ries will update flyer ▪ Commissioners will contact local merchants for sponsorship ▪ Staff to print flyers o The Gate House is planning to organize Historical Walking Tours before the movies. SPARC Emails • Email received from a potential volunteer/commissioner. Commissioner Sheets will invite her to the upcoming events. Town Updates • Mayor Link has put out on social media a Pickle Ball Survey to see what the interest is for a court in one of our parks. The Town has grant funds that can be used for the design and construction. Adjournment There being no other business, Chair Ries motioned and Co-Chair Valenstein seconded to adjourn the meeting at 7:42 PM. All voted in favor.
