OFFICIAL MINUTES SYKESVILLE PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION May 25, 2023 Present: Alex Ries Eric Valenstein Dominic Capparuccini Nick Sheets Brian Troast Staff: Jana Antrobus, Staff Liaison Absent: Chris Sevick Billy Shifflet Liza Guroff, Council Liaison Call to Order Alex Ries, Co-Chair, called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM. Approval of the Minutes Motion was made by Co-Chair Ries and seconded by Co-Chair Valenstein to approve the April 27 Minutes as presented. Commissioner Sheets and Commissioner Troast abstained all others voted in favor. Business Summer Events 1. Sykesville Cinema • Close Caption will be provided. • Commissioner Sevick will clean and stock the Snack Shack. Two Volunteers are scheduled to work the Snack Shack. • Commissioner Valenstein will organize children’s activities and Boost Facebook ad for $100. • Commissioner Capparuccini will put out movie signs Friday and Commissioner Troast will take them down on Sunday. • Movie Sponsorship – 3 gold confirmed 1 gold is pending. Follow up needed with Becks and Patapsco Distillery to discuss sponsorship. Commissioner Troast will take forms to additional local businesses. • Offer Shrimptown free advertising for co-sponsoring the Skateboard Contest. 2. Music in the Park • Two bands confirmed. ▪ Liberty Road – August 26 ▪ Open – September 23 ▪ Here Till Sunday – September 30 3. Skateboard Contest • Jason from Shrimptown will attend the June meeting to provide update and will have a flyer drafted. • Following the June meeting the Commission will do a site visit to South Branch Park to continue the planning discussion. OFFICIAL MINUTES SYKESVILLE PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION May 25, 2023 4. July 4 Parade • Commissioner Troast will work with Public Works to get float ready for the parade. • Commissioner Troast requests a different trailer then last year that doesn’t have a ramp lifted in the back. • Public Works to provide straw bales. • Commissioner Sheets will be Sparky • Find children to ride the float. Banner and Sign Design/Purchase Update • Three banner option were provided and one was selected to be printed. • Banner will be ordered from Shannon-Baum • New SPARC logo is being considered and several options were designed. Discussion will continue at the next meeting. Town Updates: • Splash Pad is opening May 26 through September 4 from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Closed on Tuesdays for maintenance. • New employee has been hired to manage the splash pad. Also, will monitor trash cans and bathrooms. • Zipline has been repaired. Adjournment There being no other business, Co-Chair Ries motioned and Commissioner Sheets seconded to adjourn the meeting at 7:46 PM. All voted in favor.
