OFFICIAL MINUTES SYKESVILLE PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION July 27, 2023 Present: Alex Ries Eric Valenstein Dominic Capparuccini Nick Sheets Chris Sevick Billy Shifflet Liza Guroff, Council Liaison Staff: Joe Cosentini, Town Manager Absent: Jana Antrobus, Staff Liaison Call to Order Alex Ries, Co-Chair, called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM. Approval of the Minutes Motion was made by Co-Chair Ries and seconded by Commissioner Sheets to approve the June 22 Minutes as presented. All voted in favor. Business 1. Presentation by Dan and Benny Rosenburg The idea is to organize a Sykesville Historic Sites Scavenger Hunt using coordinates, clues and a map. Mr. Rosenburg and his son have committed to take an Orienteering Course from Park Rangers through Patapsco State Park to be able to organize and run this event with the assistance of Town Staff and SPARC. 2. Skateboard Contest October 7, 2023 • To do: o Jason, Shrimptown is working on the flyer o Choose an event name o Begin registration soon o Volunteer assignments o Event layout o Food trucks 3. Summer Events • Sykesville Cinema August Movie o 3 volunteers are confirmed – Commissioner Sevick o Childrens activities – Co-chair Valenstein o Restock the Snack Shack – Commissioner Sevick o Put up and take down signs – Commissioner Shifflet o Movie setup – Commissioner Shifflet • Music in the Park o August 26 – TBD o Post on SPARC Facebook a request for bands interested in performing on August 26. OFFICIAL MINUTES SYKESVILLE PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION July 27, 2023 4. Snack Shack Menu Prices • No changes to the current prices. Commissioner Sevick received a request from a resident for permission to install a Little Library at the entrance of the Linear Trail at Gray Way. Staff suggested a formal request be submitted to the Town with information about location, type and installation. Commissioner Sheets received a request from a local baker to set up a table and sell cookies during the movie. SPARC agreed to have the cookies in the Snack Shack to sell the cookies for her. Co-chair Ries will check with the Health Department to confirm if this would be covered under the current Health Certificate. Adjournment There being no other business, Co-Chair Ries motioned and Commissioner Sheets seconded to adjourn the meeting at 7:32 PM. All voted in favor.
