OFFICIAL MINUTES SYKESVILLE PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION August 24, 2023 Present: Alex Ries Eric Valenstein Dominic Capparuccini Nick Sheets Chris Sevick Billy Shifflet Liza Guroff, Council Liaison Staff: Joe Cosentini, Town Manager Absent: Jana Antrobus, Staff Liaison Call to Order Alex Ries, Co-Chair, called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM. Approval of the Minutes Motion was made by Co-Chair Ries and seconded by Commissioner Sevick to approve the July 27 Minutes as presented. All voted in favor. Business Summer Events 1. Skateboard Contest – October 7 A draft flyer was presented and all agreed more details should be added. Co-chair Reis will follow up with Jason, Shrimptown for his plans for the event. She will also check with local Main Street Restaurants to see if they would like to sell food during the event. 2. Concerts in the Park – Duffy and Ro o Snack Shack volunteers scheduled to arrive at 4 o Put up signs – Commissioner Sheets 3. Sykesville Cinema – Mighty Ducks o Volunteers – Commissioner Sevick o Children’s Activity - Co-chair Valenstein o Put up signs – Commissioner Shifflet o Movie setup – TBD o Hockey Demonstration – Commissioner Sevick A local baker asked to sell cookies during events. SPARC will offer to sell the cookies in the Snack Shack as long as they meet Health Department requirements. 4. Fall Cleanup – September 23 o Members of SPARC will do site visits to determine the location and provide a list of supplies for staff to purchase. OFFICIAL MINUTES SYKESVILLE PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION August 24, 2023 SPARC requests needing staff approval: • Fire pit during movies • Mini Nature Center - Commissioner Shifflet will reach out to Piney Run Park to discuss possible collaboration for a temporary exhibit. Adjournment There being no other business, Co-Chair Ries motioned and Commissioner Sheets seconded to adjourn the meeting at 7:43 PM. All voted in favor.
