OFFICIAL MINUTES SYKESVILLE PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION January 25, 2024 Present: Alex Ries Eric Valenstein Chris Sevick Nick Sheets Billy Shifflet Staff: Kevin Rubenstein Absent: Dan Gilbert Billy Shifflet Liza Guroff, Council Liaison Jana Antrobus, Staff Liaison Call to Order Alex Ries, Co-Chair, called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM. Approval of the Minutes Chair Ries motioned and Co-chair Valenstein Seconded to approve the November 16, 2023 Minutes. All voted in favor. Business 1. 2024 Event Schedule The Commission agreed to the following schedule. Easter Egg Hunt (10am) & ScavenEGGer Hunt (March 29 to April 2) o March 29 Spring Park Cleanup (9am to 12pm) o April 20 Sykesville Skate Jam Competition (12pm to 4pm) o April 27 Sykesville Cinema (15 minutes after sundown) o June 8 - Viewer’s Choice (Shrek, Coco or Bambi) o July 13 – Jurassic Park o August 10 - Mighty Ducks o September 14 – Inside Out o October 12 - Ghostbusters Music in the Park (5pm to 7pm) o September 7 – TBD o September 28 – TBD o October 5 - TBD Let Freedom Ring Parade o June 29 Fall Park Cleanup (9am to 12pm) o September 21 Trick or Treat on Main (4pm to 6pm) o October 26 Santa’s Arrival (3pm to 6pm) o December 7 OFFICIAL MINUTES SYKESVILLE PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION January 25, 2024 Motion Co-chair Valenstein motioned and Commissioner Shifflet seconded to approve the 2024 Event Schedule. All voted in favor. 2. SPARC Logo Co-chair Valenstein provided several draft copies of potential logos with color pallets. The Commission reviewed and agreed to one with some minor modifications. Co-chair Valenstein will email to the Commission the modified logo next week. 3. Sparky Costume Staff provide four squirrel costume options to consider as a replacement. Following a review of all costumes the Commission chose the first option. Motion Commissioner Sheet motioned and Commissioner Sevick seconded to approve the purchase of a squirrel costume, item number T0113. All voted in favor. Town Updates: 1. Staff provided an ongoing list of agenda items for the upcoming year. 2. Sykesville’s park pavilion rentals can be made 6 months in advance. Adjournment There being no other business, Chair Ries motioned and Commissioner Sheets seconded to adjourn the meeting at 7:43 PM.
