Caruso, Esq., Corporation Counsel  RES38 RESOLUTION ENDORSING THE APPLICATION OF CAPITAL ROOTS FOR AN ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE COMMUNITY IMPACT GRANT WHEREAS, Capital Roots is applying to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation for a project grant under the Environmental Justice Community Impact Grant to be located along the 500 block of River Street, a site located within the territorial jurisdiction of this Council; and WHEREAS, as a requirement of these programs, said nonprofit must obtain the “approval/endorsement of the governing body of the municipality in which the project will be located”, NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that the City Council of Troy hereby does approve and endorse the application of Capital Roots for an Environmental Justice Community Impact Grant for a project known as Phase II of the Urban Grow Center and located within this community. Caruso, Esq., Corporation Counsel  RES39 COMMEMORATING THE 49TH ANNUAL PRIDE MARCH, AN EVENT HONORING AND CELEBRATING THE LGBTQA+ COMMUNITY AND RECOGNIZING JUNE AS PRIDE MONTH IN THE CITY OF TROY IN COMMEMORATION OF THE 50THANNIVERSARY OF THE STONEWALL RIOTS IN JUNE OF 1969 WHEREAS, the Troy City Council seeks to acknowledge exceptional events that enrich the people of the City of Troy; and WHEREAS, the Stonewall Riots in June of 1969 served as a catalyst for the LGBTQA+ rights movement; and WHEREAS, the first Pride March was held in 1970, on the anniversary of the Stonewall riots, and in the decades since it has grown to be an extraordinary annual event honoring and celebrating the LGBTQA+ community; and WHEREAS, the 49th Annual Pride March in New York City will be commemorated on Sunday, June 30, 2019; and WHEREAS, many Pride marches, parades, and celebrations will be held across New York State throughout the month of June, including local marches in the Capital Region; and WHEREAS, LGBTQA+ people have made important and lasting contributions to the City of Troy, to our great State and to our Nation in every field of endeavor including business, medicine, law, humanities, science, literature, politics, education, music, philanthropy, sports, arts, and culture that enrich our national life; and WHEREAS, Pride Month celebrates the impact LGBTQA+ people have had on the world and represents our collective struggle against prejudice and discrimination. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Troy City Council pause in its deliberations to commemorate the 49th Annual Pride March and the 50thanniversary of the Stonewall riots, and to recognize June 2019 as Pride Month.
