Tybee Island Marine Science Center AD HOC Committee Final Notes May 24th, 2019 In Attendance: Maria Procopio, Tom Olson, George Shaw, Matt Lieb, Matt Schivera, Craig Clements, Wanda Doyle, Barry Brown, Bubba Hughes, Karen Robertson, Shawn Gillen, Alice Jonsson Shawn called the meeting to order at 11:00 AM. Wanda made motion to approve 4-12-19 draft minutes. Motion approved. Matt S. gave construction update – went over schedule with group. May be some truss design change. It will stay below the approved height. Timber-framing will be starting. Shawn explained what July 4th traffic would be like. Matt L. gave construction updates. Framing may be starting May 27th. Matt S. - Nice dry spring has helped keep everything on schedule. Explained open RFIs. Maria P. inquired about crossovers. Shawn explained no rebuilding of crossover near Science Center planned. Craig likes the idea of using the present crossover to create an overlook expansion or walkway. For money-saving purposes and for the purposes of preserving the dunes, we could modify instead of building an entire new one. George clarified that we need to be careful to follow the ordinances that pertain to construction in or near dunes. Maria shared updates about myriad aspects of potential solar energy solutions for the Science Center. Barry and Wanda discussed whether or not (and to what degree) the Council might need to be involved in any solar power discussions. Maria shared she will keep Wanda, George, and Bubba (as well as Committee) in the loop on solar possibilities. Gave myriad exhibit updates. Craig shared that power needs to be taken into consideration when designing exhibits, but doesn’t foresee any issues. Maria shared she communicates regularly with Craig. Barry suggested Maria contact movie people about some boat props that are already built for potential use. Craig talked about glass that can keep light under control going in and out of building that will help with turtle protection and energy savings. Maria shared information about land and furniture donations. Wanda would like for Karen to explore generating some kind of Power Point update for the Council and for residents for the second meeting in August. Group shared info. about how people are using the North End parking lot. Meeting adjourned 11:45.
