Tyrone Town Council Meeting Minutes August 20, 2019 Special Called 9:30 am Present: Mayor, Eric Dial Mayor Pro Tem, Gloria Furr Council Member, Ken Matthews Council Member, Ryan Housley Council Member, Linda Howard Town Manager, Brandon Perkins Finance Manager, Sandy Beach Accounting Specialist, Ellie Emini Town Clerk, Dee Baker Approval of Agenda: Council Member Furr made a motion to approve the agenda. Council Member Matthews seconded the motion. Motion was approved 4-0. Public Hearing: Discussion on the millage rate of the Town of Tyrone for fiscal year 2019-2020. Brandon Perkins, Town Manager Ms. Beach stated that staff recommended the same 2.889 rate for the twelfth year in a row. This would result in an estimated $90,954 more than last year. She gave the example of a homeowner that owned a $300,000 home. The homeowner would pay approximately $15.46 in taxes. She added that the third public hearing would be held on Thursday, August 22nd at 9:30 am and the adoption would be at 6:30 pm that same evening, prior to the Planning Commission meeting. Mayor Dial opened the public hearing for anyone that wished to speak in favor of the item. No one spoke. Council Meeting August 20, 2019 9:30 am Page 1 of 2 Mr. Danny Dolan, who lives on Taylor Ridge Court spoke. He shared that he was the Vice Chairman of the Libertarian Party of Fayette County. He stated that he was told that his property value had increased and with that so would his tax bill. He added that Tyrone was a great place to live and that more folks were coming to Tyrone. The fact that his house value was increasing did not make things easier. Mr. Dolan stated that in addition to the Town tax increase, the school board shared that our tax bills would increase by approximately $100, based on their millage rate. He asked that the Town roll-back the millage rate and not take more money, we need our hard-earned money. Adjournment Council Member Furr made a motion to adjourn. Motion was approved 4-0.
