February 11, 2020 MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING URBANA ARTS AND CULTURE COMMISSION APPROVED DATE: February 11, 2020 TIME: 4:30 P.M PLACE: Council Chambers, 400 S Vine St, Urbana, IL 61801 MEMBERS PRESENT: Frank Modica, Barbara Hedlund, Jenelle Orcherton, Pat Sammann, Angela Williams MEMBERS ABSENT: Jared Miller MEMBERS EXCUSED: Courtney Becks, Gonzalo Pinilla STAFF PRESENT: Brandon Boys, Economic Development Manager; Rachel Storm, Arts & Culture Coordinator; HeatherAnn Hicks-Layman, Program Specialist OTHERS PRESENT: Terrance Stevenson, Robb Krum, Lori Fuller, Ja Nelle Pleasure, Jake Metz 1. CALL TO ORDER, ROLL CALL AND DECLARATION OF QUORUM The Urbana Arts and Culture Commission was called to order at 4:32 P.M by Sammann. Hicks-Layman took roll, however a quorum could not be declared present until the arrival of Williams at 4:38 P.M. 2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING Sammann moved to approve minutes from January 28, 2020. With no changes, all were in favor and minutes were approved. 3. ADDITIONS TO THE AGENDA The Discussion and Review of Tier III Grant Process was postponed and moved to the next regularly scheduled meeting, Tuesday March 10, 2020. 4. PUBLIC INPUT There was none. February 11, 2020 5. PRESENTATIONS • Staff Report – Rachel L Storm, Urbana Arts and Culture Coordinator Storm presented the monthly staff report, including interns, a brief grant overview, upcoming events, the Poet Laureate’s recent events/accomplishments, Poems on Glass, upcoming installations (Murals on Glass), and involvement in other community programs/organizations. • 2019 Urbana Arts Grant, Final Report – Terrance Stevenson Stevenson presented a final report for DMT Music Festivals, a requirement of their 2019 Urbana Arts Grant. • 2019 Urbana Arts Grant, Final Report – Robb Krum Krum presented a final report for CU Folk & Roots 2019 Festival, a requirement of their 2019 Urbana Arts Grant. • 2019 Urbana Arts Grant, Final Report – Lori Fuller Fuller presented a final report for 50+ Reason to Love Art, a requirement of their 2019 Urbana Arts Grant. • 2019 Urbana Arts Grant, Final Report – Ja Nelle Pleasure Pleasure presented a final report for Cinderella/Cinderfella Ballroom Dance Troupe, a requirement of their 2019 Urbana Arts Grant. • 2019 Urbana Arts Grant, Final Report – Jake Metz Metz presented a final report for Immersion: A Multidisciplinary, Experimental Arts Festival, a requirement for their 2019 Urbana Arts Grant. • Discussion of Urbana Arts Grant Program 2020 Storm presented the final recommendations of the Tier I and Tier II Grant Juries to the Arts and Culture Commission. The 2020 Arts Grant Program, in its 12th cycle with a budget of $88,000, was able to fund 38 projects. 6. NEW BUSINESS There was none. 7. ANNOUNCEMENTS February 11, 2020 There were none. 8. Discussion and Review of Tier III Grant Process Arts and Culture Commission will discuss and review processes for Tier III Grant selection and recommendations for future cycles of the program 6.
