March 10, 2020 MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING URBANA ARTS AND CULTURE COMMISSION APPROVED DATE: March 10, 2020 TIME: 4:30 P.M PLACE: Council Chambers, 400 S Vine St, Urbana, IL 61801 MEMBERS PRESENT: Frank Modica, Barbara Hedlund, Jared Miller, Pat Sammann, Courtney Becks MEMBERS ABSENT: Gonzalo Pinilla MEMBERS EXCUSED: Angela Williams, Jenelle Orcherton STAFF PRESENT: Brandon Boys, Economic Development Manager; Rachel Storm, Arts & Culture Coordinator; OTHERS PRESENT: Susan Ogwal, Joel Spencer 1. CALL TO ORDER, ROLL CALL AND DECLARATION OF QUORUM The Urbana Arts and Culture Commission was called to order at 4:30 P.M by Sammann. Storm took roll and a quorum was declared present. 2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING Sammann moved to approve minutes from February 11, 2020. With no changes, all were in favor and minutes were approved. 3. ADDITIONS TO THE AGENDA Presenters Justin McAdara and Emily Knox were moved to the April Urbana Arts and Culture Commission meeting. Susan Ogwal presented on the 2019 CU Black & African Arts Festival. 4. PUBLIC INPUT There was none. March 10, 2020 5. PRESENTATIONS • Staff Report – Rachel L Storm, Urbana Arts and Culture Coordinator Storm presented the monthly staff report, including news regarding the receipt of an Illinois Arts Grant to the Urbana Arts and Culture Program. This award will be used for two summer interns. Storm also presented updates regarding upcoming events, work with current University of Illinois interns, updates on the Poet Laureate’s ongoing events/projects, Poems on Glass, Murals on Glass, Art in the Market events, Young Artists Studio, Urbana’s Downtown Get Down, and involvement in other community programs/organizations. • 2019 Urbana Arts Grant, Final Report – Joel Spencer Spencer presented a final report for Teen Art at the Library, a requirement of their 2019 Urbana Arts Grant. • 2019 Urbana Arts Grant, Final Report – Susan Ogwal Ogwal presented a final report for CU Black & African Arts Festival, a requirement of their 2019 Urbana Arts Grant. • Discussion and Review of the Tier III Grant Process Storm led a discussion and review with the Arts and Culture Commission regarding the process used for the 2020 Urbana Arts Grant, Tier III cycle. The Commission submitted questions, comments, and concerns to be reviewed by staff for consideration to update the guidelines for the 2021 Urbana Arts Grant, Tier III cycle. 6. NEW BUSINESS There was none. 7. ANNOUNCEMENTS There were none. 8. ADJOURNMENT With no further business and no objection, Sammann declared the meeting adjourned at 6:07 P.M.
