MEMBERS PRESENT: Frank Modica, Barbara Hedlund, Jenelle Orcherton, Pat Samman,

1. CALL TO ORDER, ROLL CALL AND DECLARATION OF QUORUM
The Urbana Arts and Culture Commission Chair (Samman) requested another member of
the board act as chair for the duration of the meeting. Miller nominated Hedlund, Modica
seconded. All were in favor and Hedlund accepted.
The Urbana Arts and Culture Commission was called to order at 4:32 P.M by Hedlund.
Hicks-Layman took roll and a quorum was declared present.
2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING
Miller moved to approve minutes from March 10, 2020, Modica seconded. With no
changes, all were in favor and minutes were approved.
3. ADDITIONS TO THE AGENDA
Presenter Lisa Faye was moved to present before the monthly Staff Report.

There was none.
5. PRESENTATIONS
• 2019 Urbana Arts Grant, Final Report – Lisa Faye
Faye presented a final report for Experimental Theatre Performance Laboratory for
Young Theatre Practitioners, a requirement of their 2019 Urbana Arts Grant.
• Staff Report – Rachel L Storm, Urbana Arts and Culture Coordinator
Storm presented the monthly staff report: All Arts programs sponsored by the Arts and
Culture program were cancelled through the end of May, due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
Storm presented a review of events that were held proceeding the Shelter in Place order.
Storm also updated the Commission on progress with 2020 Urbana Arts Grants, as well
as the communication happening with 2019 awardees who need extensions due to the
COVID-19 outbreak. There are events happening virtually with collaborations between
the Arts and Culture Program, Chambanamoms, Urbana Park District, Museum of the
Grand Prairie, KOOP Adventure Play, the Poet Laureate, and CU Poetry. There have
been major and repeating events postponed until further notice, including Culture Fest,
Art at the Market, Young Artist’s Studio, and the Ribbon Cutting for 2020 Murals on
Glass Selection.
• 2019 Urbana Arts Grant, Final Report – Emily Knox
Knox presented a final report for Heartland Makerfest, a requirement of their 2019
Urbana Arts Grant.
• 2019 Urbana Arts Grant, Final Report – Emily McKown
McKown presented a final report for It’s My Body, a requirement of their 2019 Urbana
Arts Grant.
• 2019 Urbana Arts Grant, Final Report – Justin McAdara
Fuller presented a final report for CU Jazz Festival, a requirement of their 2019 Urbana
Arts Grant.

• COVID-19 Impact on Urbana Arts and Culture Program
Storm gave an update on what has been cancelled, and the plan for getting info out to the
public about cancellations or upcoming virtual events, as well as community resources.
Storm also updated the Commission on the possibility of pushing the Downtown Get
Down into September.

With no further business and no objection, Hedlund declared the meeting adjourned at
5:42 P.M.

local arts and culture community.
