CITY OF URBANA, ILLINOIS SUSTAINABILITY ADVISORY COMMISSION Executive Conference Room, Urbana City Building Tuesday, September 8, 2015 Commissioners Present: Chairperson Marya Ryan, Vice Chair Stephen Wald, Bart Bartels, Morgan Johnston, Todd Rusk, Andrew Stumpf, Pam Voitik Staff Present: Scott Tess Call to Order, Roll Call, and Declaration of Quorum The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. Scott Tess called the roll and a quorum was present. Changes to the Agenda Discussion of Illinois State Water Survey Bulletin 70 will be added to Communications. Approval of Minutes from Previous Meeting Motion was made by Mr. Wald, second by Mr. Bartels, to approve the minutes from the July 7, 2015 meeting. Motion carried. Public Input There was no public input. Communications Bulletin 70 Illinois State Climatologist Jim Angel spoke briefly with the Commission concerning the comparison of Bulletin 70, the current state standard for expected rainfall events, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Service’s Atlas 14, a publication that provides precipitation frequency estimates to include the State of Illinois. Funding will be needed for the next update to Bulletin 70, and letters of support for the funding will be helpful. Staff Report Scott Tess gave the monthly Staff Report that included progress on the Climate Action Plan (CAP) Phase 2 highlighting the areas of a Green Built luncheon, development of green development standard opportunities, and strategies to improve the local onsite renewable energy market. Related to the Sustainable Water Management Plan, Tess mentioned Mahomet Aquifer Coalition issues and a study concerning the feasibility of a household hazardous waste collection event. Additionally, the report noted collection of recyclables and cardboard at the Sweetcorn Festival. The Report stated October 6 at 7 p.m. as the next meeting date. Continuing Business There was no continuing business to address. New Business Determination of SAC role in Grow Solar technical assistance The Grow Solar Team, an initiative of the Midwest Renewable Energy Association, gave a slide presentation to the Commission outlining their set of resources to assist in implementing a solar program in Champaign County. Discussion ensued regarding basic concepts, execution of an area solar program, a timeline, and the request for proposal process. No action was taken. The Commission discussed holding a special meeting to continue the Grow Solar discussion on Thursday, September 24. Announcements There were no announcements. Adjournment There being no further business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned at 9:05 p.m. This meeting was recorded.
