CITY OF VERONA POLICE AND FIRE COMMISSION TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 28, 2023, AT 5:00 PM VERONA POLICE DEPARTMENT 111 LINCOLN STREET MINUTES 1. Call to Order by Louis Eifert at 5:05 pm. 2. Roll Call: Louis Eifert, Cole Leystra, and Mylinda Heil. Also present: Verona Police Chief David Dresser & Verona Fire Chief Dan Machotka 3. Approval of Minutes: Moved by Leystra, seconded by Heil to approve the October 25, 2022, minutes of the Verona Police and Fire Commission. Motion Carried: 3-0. 4. Discussion by Fire Chief Machotka regarding a status update for the Battalion Chief recruitment process. No action taken; discussion only. 5. Discussion on the police department opening a recruitment process for entry level police officer. Moved by Heil, seconded by Leystra to close the current recruitment process, which was exhausted. Motion Carried 3-0. Moved by Leystra, seconded by Eifert to open a new recruitment process for entry level police officer. Motion Carried 3-0 6. Moved by Eifert, seconded by Leystra to convene into closed session pursuant to Sec. 19.85(1) (c) and (e), WI State Statue, for the following purposes: a. Discussing strategic considerations of the Commission involving the selection process for lieutenant of police and information related to specific Department personnel related to the selection process. b. Interviewing candidates for the position of Lieutenant of Police Motion Carried: 3-0. Police Chief David Dresser was invited to remain in closed session. Time: 5:20 p.m. 7. Moved by Leystra, seconded by Eifert to return to open session for discussion and possible action regarding the closed session. Motion Carried: 3-0. Time: 8:13 p.m. Moved by Leystra, seconded by Eifert to certify all candidates who interviewed for the position of Lieutenant of Police. Motion Carried: 3-0. 8.
