MINUTES
1. Call to Order by Louis Eifert at 5:15 pm.
2. Roll Call: Louis Eifert, Cole Leystra, and Melissa Helgesen.
Also present: Verona Fire Chief Dan Machotka and Verona Police Chief Dave Dresser
3. Approval of Minutes: Moved by Eifert, seconded by Helgesen to approve the July 17, 2023, minutes of
the Verona Police and Fire Commission.
Motion Carried: 3-0.
4. Discussion on Personnel Order #2023-06, relating to the Police Chief’s appointment of Matthew V. Lovell to
the job classification of Sergeant.
No Motion needed.
5. Discussion on Personnel Order #2023-07, relating to the Police Chief’s appointment of Dustin D. Fehrmann
to the job classification of Lieutenant.
No Motion needed.
6. Moved by Eifert, seconded by Leystra to convene into closed session pursuant to Sec. 19.85(1) (c) and
(e), WI State Statue, for the following purposes:
a. Update from Fire Chief Machotka on the existing recruitment process
Motion Carried: 3-0. Fire Chief Dan Machotka was invited to remain in closed session. Time: 5:20 p.m.
7. Moved by Leystra, seconded by Helgesen to return to open session for discussion and possible action
regarding the closed session.
Motion Carried: 3-0. Time: 5:25 p.m.
8. Moved by Eifert, seconded by Helgesen to authorize the Fire Chief to conduct the recruitment process
for a full-time (career) Fire Lieutenant.
Motion Carried: 3-0.
9. Moved by Eifert, seconded by Helgesen to authorize the Fire Chief to conduct the recruitment process
for a full-time (career) Fire Apparatus Engineer/Inspector.
Motion Carried: 3-0.
10. Adjournment: Moved by Eifert, seconded by Leystra to adjourn at 5:31 p.m.
